Job Description:
The Operational Excellence Engineer Intern will provide support to the OpEx Engineering team to help drive the Lean transformation and quality improvement initiatives in manufacturing by ensuring strategies are implemented and principles/practices/tools are incorporated into the manufacturing processes. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, adaptability, and a willingness to work in a collaborative team environment are skills that will support a high level of success in this position.
Responsibilities:
- To support the Manufacturing Manager in implementing Lean transformation and continuous improvement that leads to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity across the manufacturing organization:
- Participating in Gemba walks, kaizens, supporting employees on continuous improvement, standard work, flow, takt time attainment, and problem-solving abnormalities causing tasks to make mistakes.
- Support development and improvement of Assembly visual work aids.
- Conduct cycle time analyses, time studies, line balance improvements and workplace improvements.
- Support lean disciplines and 5-S to internal processes, Support on-site audits.
- Support continuous improvement and cost reduction projects at the site.
- Appreciation and awareness for Manufacturing demand and prioritization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or other related fields of study.
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Related project work or previous internship a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work across a variety of departments.
- Multi-tasking and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Appreciation and awareness for Manufacturing demand and prioritization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge Lean Manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement-based tools and techniques a plus.
Must have operations & projects exp:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or other related field of study.
Work environment and physical demands of this position:

This position will be subject to mostly controlled but potential varying internal environmental conditions, including changes in temperature and noise that are within acceptable safety levels common to high tech assembly environment.
Work may involve long-term standing, sitting and frequent walking throughout areas such as the assembly area, testing area or machine shop as well as navigating common hazards related to these areas.
Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Weekend and overtime work may be occasionally required.
Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
While COVID-19 precautions are in effect, this role requires use of face masks/face coverings while working in our facilities.
