Which companies sponsor visas for licensed practical nurses in North Carolina?
Large health systems are the most active sponsors for LPN roles in North Carolina. Atrium Health, Duke Health, Novant Health, and WakeMed have histories of sponsoring internationally trained nurses. Long-term care and skilled nursing facility operators, including regional chains with multiple North Carolina locations, also file LPN sponsorship petitions regularly. Sponsorship availability varies by facility and timing, so confirming directly with each employer's HR team is important.
Which visa types are most common for licensed practical nurse roles in North Carolina?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained LPNs in North Carolina, as the role is classified as a skilled or unskilled occupation under PERM labor certification. Some employers use the H-1B for nurses, though LPN roles do not always meet the specialty occupation threshold. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican LPNs under USMCA. Each pathway has distinct requirements and timelines.
How to find licensed practical nurse visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters LPN roles in North Carolina by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening hundreds of listings. You can browse active licensed practical nurse postings across Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, and other North Carolina markets in one place. Filtering by sponsorship type helps identify which employers are currently open to international candidates, which is often the hardest information to surface otherwise.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most licensed practical nurse sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte and the surrounding Mecklenburg County area generate the highest volume of LPN job activity in the state, driven by Atrium Health's large hospital and outpatient network. Raleigh and Durham follow closely, anchored by Duke Health and the region's dense concentration of hospitals and specialty clinics. Greensboro and Winston-Salem also see consistent LPN hiring through Cone Health and Atrium Wake Forest Baptist. Rural counties occasionally post sponsored roles tied to critical shortage area incentives.
What state-specific factors should international LPNs know before applying in North Carolina?
International LPNs must obtain a North Carolina nursing license through the North Carolina Board of Nursing, which requires passing the NCLEX-PN and credential verification through a recognized evaluation service. North Carolina participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so LPNs already holding a multistate compact license from another compact state may have a smoother transition. The state's growing population, particularly in suburban Charlotte and the Research Triangle, creates strong underlying demand that supports employer willingness to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored licensed practical nurse jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
