Which companies sponsor visas for medical assistants in North Carolina?
The largest sponsors of medical assistants in North Carolina tend to be major health systems, including Duke Health, Novant Health, Atrium Health, UNC Health, and WakeMed. These organizations operate across multiple facilities and have established HR infrastructure for managing visa sponsorship, which smaller private practices typically do not. Federally Qualified Health Centers serving underserved communities in the state also sponsor international clinical staff with some regularity.
Which visa types are most common for medical assistant roles in North Carolina?
Medical assistant roles in North Carolina most commonly involve the H-1B visa, though qualifying depends on whether the specific position is classified as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Some candidates may also be sponsored through the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway for skilled or unskilled workers. Employers and immigration attorneys determine the appropriate visa category based on the role's duties and the candidate's credentials.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most medical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, and Greensboro concentrate the highest volume of medical assistant job openings in North Carolina, reflecting where the state's largest health systems operate most of their facilities. The Research Triangle area, encompassing Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, benefits from proximity to major academic medical centers affiliated with Duke University, UNC, and NC State, which supports stronger hiring pipelines for international candidates.
How to find medical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to help international candidates find visa sponsorship jobs, including medical assistant roles filtered by state. You can browse North Carolina medical assistant listings on Migrate Mate to identify employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness, which saves significant time compared to researching each health system individually. Filtering by role and location helps you focus on facilities in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Durham where sponsorship activity is most concentrated.
Are there any North Carolina-specific considerations for medical assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
North Carolina requires medical assistants to work under physician supervision, and while the state does not license medical assistants separately, some employers require candidates to hold a nationally recognized certification such as the CMA from the AAMA or the RMA from AMT. International candidates should confirm their credentials are recognized by prospective employers before applying. The state's prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor rules apply to any sponsored position and vary by county and specific job duties.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical assistant jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
