Which science and research companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in Ohio?
Ohio's largest CPT sponsors in science and research include Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals in Cleveland, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Major universities such as Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati also host CPT students in affiliated research positions. Large life sciences and chemical companies with Ohio operations, including Sherwin-Williams R&D and Procter & Gamble research divisions, have also participated in CPT programs.
Which cities in Ohio have the most science and research F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads due to Ohio State University's scale and Battelle's global research headquarters, which together generate a high volume of CPT-eligible lab and data science roles. Cleveland follows closely, anchored by Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University, and a growing biomedical research corridor. Cincinnati offers opportunities through its medical research institutions and consumer goods R&D centers. Dayton also hosts aerospace and materials science CPT roles connected to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base contractors.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for CPT must be directly tied to a student's degree program and approved by their Designated School Official. In Ohio's science and research sector, commonly approved positions include laboratory research assistant, computational biology analyst, environmental science technician, materials science intern, and clinical research coordinator. Data science and bioinformatics roles at research hospitals and universities also qualify frequently, provided the work is integral to the student's academic curriculum.
How do I find science and research F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 students seeking CPT-eligible roles and filters science and research positions by state, letting you focus on Ohio employers with verified sponsorship activity. Beyond Migrate Mate, connect directly with your university's career center, since many Ohio research institutions post CPT-specific openings through on-campus channels before listing them publicly. Targeting employers with established CPT programs at Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, or Cleveland Clinic significantly improves your odds of finding a role your DSO can approve.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for F-1 CPT sponsorship in science and research?
Ohio's concentration of federally funded research institutions means many CPT roles involve work on government grants, which can add security clearance or citizenship eligibility requirements at certain labs, particularly those affiliated with Department of Defense contractors in the Dayton area. Students should confirm with their DSO that a proposed CPT employer is not restricted to U.S. persons before accepting an offer. Ohio universities also vary in how strictly they interpret 'integral to the curriculum,' so aligning your CPT role closely with your enrolled coursework is especially important.
