Which science and research companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Ohio?
Ohio's strongest F-1 STEM OPT sponsors in science and research include Battelle Memorial Institute, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and Procter and Gamble's research division. Pharmaceutical companies operating in the Columbus and Cincinnati areas, along with federal laboratory contractors and university research offices, also have consistent STEM OPT hiring histories in scientific and technical roles.
Which cities in Ohio have the most science and research F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for science and research STEM OPT opportunities, anchored by Ohio State University and Battelle Memorial Institute. Cleveland follows closely, with Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University driving demand for research and laboratory talent. Cincinnati is a strong third, supported by Procter and Gamble's R&D operations and Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Dayton also has notable activity through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base contractors and University of Dayton research programs.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Ohio?
Roles that commonly qualify include research scientist, laboratory analyst, postdoctoral researcher, bioinformatics specialist, computational biologist, and materials scientist. Positions in data science applied to research, environmental science, and clinical research coordination also frequently fall under STEM-designated degree programs. The role must align with the student's STEM degree field and meet the USCIS employer enrollment and reporting requirements for STEM OPT extensions.
How do I find science and research F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters science and research jobs by STEM OPT eligibility and Ohio location, showing employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history in scientific and research occupations. This lets you focus your search on Ohio employers who have actively sponsored international workers in your field, rather than guessing at which organizations are open to STEM OPT candidates. You can also filter by specific research disciplines to match your degree program.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in science and research roles in Ohio?
Ohio's concentration of federally funded research institutions and federal contractors introduces security clearance considerations, since some positions at labs like Battelle or Wright-Patterson contractors require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and are not available to STEM OPT candidates. For roles without clearance requirements, Ohio employers in life sciences and academic research are generally familiar with STEM OPT reporting requirements, including the mandatory employer enrollment with E-Verify and the 10 and 18-month evaluation reporting obligations under USCIS regulations.
