FLSA: Non-exempt
Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week 1st shift. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary
The Synthetic Chemist II is responsible for supporting an innovative group of clients that focus on the chemistry of consumer products. The analyst will receive samples from the client and will perform various analytical and synthetic chemistry techniques per client methods/SOPs. The analyst will retrieve data and format into client note booking systems, or into email reports as per client preferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support Consumer Product R&D in Synthetical and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory
- Routinely operating laboratory instruments such as Open Access Bruker 300 MHz Ascend NEO NMR, an Open Access Thermo Scientific ISQEM MS with Vanquish LC, rotovaps, and other synthetic laboratory tools as requested by submitters
- Aiding in the isolation/purification/assessment of synthesized materials using TLC, Silica Gel Column Chromatography, and distillation/extraction techniques and SO3 Titration to measure activity, as directed by submitters
- Documenting experiments and generating data reports via ELN (electronic lab notebook) or via email reports as per submitter preferences
- Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe laboratory environment, adhering to all regulatory and safety guidelines
- Order, organize, restock, and manage lab supplies, reagents, and solutions
- Complies with SOPs and maintains all logbooks
- Complies with all safety guidelines.
- Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Following the guidelines set forth by clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies, and procedures
- Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.
SKILLS & PROFICIENCIES
- Prior Synthetic Chemistry experience, or exposure to a working synthetic chemistry environment very helpful
- Prior Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry experience very helpful
- Prior NMR experience very helpful
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
- Must have good customer service skills - job is client facing and performed in client laboratory
- Must be proficient in basic programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with keeping a laboratory notebook and performing basic analytical data analysis
- Written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in a group setting, with colleagues and clients
- Ability to multitask and time management skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet or exceed deadlines
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, high level of engagement
- Adheres to company values
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or closely related field
- Minimum of 1-2 year(s) of experience with analytical instruments or in an analytical/synthetic chemistry lab
- Prior experience or exposure to working synthetic chemistry environment a plus
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
COMPENSATION
- $22 - $25 an hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).
