Which medical devices companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Ohio?
Ohio hosts several major medical devices employers with F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, including Stryker, Philips Healthcare, Medtronic, and Integra LifeSciences. Mid-size contract manufacturers and device startups concentrated around Columbus and Cleveland also participate. Sponsorship patterns vary by company size and role type, so reviewing employer-level OPT filing history before applying is advisable.
Which cities in Ohio have the most medical devices F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads for corporate and research-oriented medical devices roles, partly due to proximity to Ohio State University and a growing life sciences corridor. Cleveland has a strong cluster around the Cleveland Clinic medical device ecosystem and established manufacturing firms. Cincinnati rounds out the top three, with device companies tied to the broader healthcare manufacturing presence in the southwest part of the state.
What types of medical devices roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that routinely qualify include biomedical engineer, quality assurance engineer, regulatory affairs specialist, manufacturing process engineer, software engineer for embedded medical systems, and R&D scientist. These positions typically require a degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field. The role must fall under a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code tied to your degree to qualify.
How do I find medical devices F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters medical devices job listings specifically by F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship eligibility and state, so you can search Ohio openings without manually screening employers. Because STEM OPT requires the employer to be enrolled in E-Verify, Migrate Mate's filters surface only compliant employers. This significantly narrows the field compared to general job searches and surfaces companies with verified OPT sponsorship activity in Ohio's medical devices sector.
Are there any Ohio-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in medical devices?
Ohio's medical devices employers frequently operate under FDA quality system regulations, meaning many roles involve regulatory compliance work. This can add complexity to job descriptions but also expands qualifying STEM roles. Ohio does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements, but employers in FDA-regulated environments often have stricter background check and documentation processes. STEM OPT extensions also require a formal training plan agreed upon by both you and the employer before the extension period begins.
