Which healthcare companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Ohio?
Ohio's largest academic medical centers account for a significant share of F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship activity in healthcare. Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, University Hospitals, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and Nationwide Children's Hospital have established hiring programs for international graduates in technical and research-oriented roles. Employer sponsorship patterns can vary by department and role type, so verifying LCA filing history before applying is advisable.
Which cities in Ohio have the most healthcare F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati together account for the largest concentration of healthcare F-1 STEM OPT positions in Ohio. Columbus benefits from proximity to Ohio State University's medical and research infrastructure. Cleveland hosts a nationally recognized cluster of academic hospitals and research institutions. Cincinnati's medical corridor, anchored by Cincinnati Children's and UC Health, also generates consistent demand for STEM-qualified international graduates in health technology and biomedical roles.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must fall under a STEM-designated CIP code as recognized by the Department of Homeland Security. In Ohio healthcare, qualifying positions commonly include health informatics analysts, biomedical engineers, clinical data scientists, bioinformatics researchers, and medical device software developers. Direct patient-care roles generally do not qualify unless the position has a substantive technical or quantitative component tied to a STEM degree field. Checking the O*NET occupation profile and your DSO can confirm eligibility for a specific role.
How do I find healthcare F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters healthcare job listings in Ohio by F-1 STEM OPT eligibility, surfacing employers with verified LCA filing history for STEM-aligned roles. This lets you focus on positions where sponsorship has actually occurred rather than guessing from job descriptions. For Ohio healthcare specifically, filtering by Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati will return the highest volume of relevant openings across hospital systems, research institutions, and health technology employers.
Are there any Ohio-specific or healthcare-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Ohio's concentration of academic medical centers means many healthcare employers are also universities or affiliated research institutions, which can affect how sponsorship is structured and whether H-1B visa cap-exempt status applies later. Ohio does not impose additional state-level visa requirements beyond federal rules, but healthcare employers in regulated roles may require Ohio state licensure or credentialing independent of visa authorization. STEM OPT participants must also meet the training plan requirements set by USCIS, including a formal I-983 agreement with the employer.
