Which insurance companies in Ohio sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Ohio is home to several large insurance carriers with documented STEM OPT hiring. Nationwide and Progressive both have substantial analytics and actuarial teams in Columbus and Mayfield Village respectively. Westfield Insurance and Erie Indemnity also operate in the state. Sponsorship patterns vary by role and team, so verifying active STEM-designated openings at each employer before applying is important.
Which Ohio cities have the most insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is the largest concentration point, driven by Nationwide's headquarters and a growing insurtech presence. Mayfield Village hosts Progressive's main campus with significant data science and actuarial hiring. Cleveland has additional carrier and reinsurance offices. Smaller markets like Cincinnati also have insurance employer presence, though STEM-designated roles are less frequent outside the three primary metros.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles must fall under a STEM-designated CIP code to qualify. In insurance, actuarial analyst, data scientist, quantitative risk analyst, predictive modeling analyst, and software engineer positions most commonly qualify. These roles typically connect to degree programs in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or data science. General claims, underwriting, or sales roles without a quantitative technical component less frequently meet the STEM designation requirement.
How do I find insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters insurance job listings by visa type and state, making it straightforward to identify Ohio employers actively seeking F-1 STEM OPT candidates in actuarial, analytics, and risk modeling roles. Because STEM OPT eligibility depends on both your degree's CIP code and the role's classification, narrowing results by STEM-designated positions within the insurance sector in Ohio saves significant research time.
Are there any Ohio-specific or insurance-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Ohio employers hiring STEM OPT students must be enrolled in E-Verify, a federal requirement for all STEM OPT extensions. Ohio's dense concentration of insurance headquarters means employers here often have established HR processes for OPT work authorization. However, insurance roles are subject to state licensing requirements for certain functions, and those licensing pathways are separate from and do not affect your STEM OPT authorization itself.
