Which insurance companies in Rhode Island sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
FM Global, headquartered in Johnston, is one of Rhode Island's most active sponsors of international talent in data science and engineering roles tied to risk research. Amica Mutual in Providence and Narragansett Bay Insurance have also hired F-1 STEM OPT workers in analytical positions. Sponsorship activity varies by role and fiscal year, so confirming current filing history with each employer directly is advisable.
Which cities in Rhode Island have the most insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Providence concentrates the highest number of insurance employers in Rhode Island, with corporate offices for carriers and brokerages clustered near the financial district. Johnston hosts FM Global's global headquarters, making it a notable destination for actuarial and engineering roles. Cranston and Warwick also have insurance operations, particularly regional offices and specialty underwriting firms that occasionally hire in STEM-designated positions.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must align with a STEM-designated degree field as defined by the USCIS and ICE STEM OPT program. In insurance, this commonly includes actuarial analyst positions tied to mathematics or statistics degrees, data scientist and predictive modeling roles linked to computer science or applied mathematics, and catastrophe risk analyst positions tied to engineering or environmental science programs. General underwriting or claims roles without a quantitative degree match typically do not qualify.
How do I find insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Rhode Island?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 STEM OPT job seekers and surfaces insurance roles in Rhode Island where employers have verified sponsorship history. You can filter by visa type, state, and industry to identify actuarial, data analytics, and risk modeling positions at carriers like FM Global and Amica Mutual. Migrate Mate's employer profiles also show past STEM OPT filing activity, helping you prioritize outreach to companies already familiar with the program requirements.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Rhode Island's insurance industry?
Rhode Island does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements on employers, so the federal STEM OPT framework governed by USCIS and the Department of Homeland Security applies uniformly. However, Rhode Island's insurance market is relatively concentrated, meaning fewer employers than in larger states. Actuarial and data science candidates benefit from familiarity with the Rhode Island Division of Insurance's regulatory context, which shapes the compliance and modeling work many STEM OPT-eligible roles involve.
