What types of education roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must fall under a STEM-designated STEM degree classification. In education, this typically includes data analysts supporting institutional research, instructional designers using learning management systems, educational software developers, and research scientists or coordinators in STEM departments. Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Rhode Island's education sector?
Rhode Island education employers sponsoring STEM OPT workers must enroll in E-Verify, as required by federal STEM OPT regulations, and submit a formal training plan through the DSO before employment begins. Rhode Island has no additional state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal rules. Because many Rhode Island education employers are nonprofits or public universities, candidates should confirm the employer's E-Verify enrollment status and familiarity with STEM OPT reporting obligations before signing an offer.
