Which insurance companies in Massachusetts sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Liberty Mutual, Hanover Insurance Group, and Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance (MassMutual) have consistently filed Labor Condition Applications for STEM-eligible roles in Massachusetts. Smaller specialty carriers and insurtech firms in the Greater Boston area also hire STEM OPT graduates, particularly for actuarial, data engineering, and predictive modeling positions. Sponsorship patterns vary by employer size, role, and annual hiring cycle, so reviewing DOL LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to confirm a company's filing history.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Boston holds the highest concentration of insurance sponsorship roles, driven by the density of carriers, reinsurers, and financial services firms headquartered or regionally based there. Worcester is notable as Hanover Insurance Group's home base, generating actuarial and analytics openings. Springfield hosts MassMutual's headquarters and supporting data teams. Cambridge and Quincy also see postings from insurtech and specialty lines companies with STEM-eligible hiring needs.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Roles that qualify must map to a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code tied to the graduate's degree. In insurance, this commonly covers actuarial analyst, data scientist, quantitative risk analyst, insurance technology engineer, and statistical modeling positions. Roles requiring degrees in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or engineering tend to meet the STEM designation threshold. General claims adjusting or sales-focused positions rarely qualify, as they don't typically require a STEM degree as a minimum credential.
How do I find insurance F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters insurance job listings by visa type, allowing F-1 STEM OPT candidates to search specifically for Massachusetts employers with active sponsorship history. Because Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing data, you can verify which insurance companies have actually sponsored STEM OPT roles rather than relying on general job descriptions. Narrowing your search to Boston, Worcester, and Springfield will surface the highest volume of relevant insurance postings with confirmed sponsorship activity.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT insurance jobs in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires insurance employers to comply with state licensing rules, which can affect how quickly a new STEM OPT hire can take on client-facing responsibilities. Actuarial and data roles typically sidestep licensing requirements, making them more accessible entry points. The state's strong university ecosystem, including MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern, means competition for STEM OPT insurance roles is real. Employers in Massachusetts are generally familiar with STEM OPT timelines and the E-Verify requirement that accompanies the 24-month extension.
