Which automotive companies in Ohio sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Honda's large manufacturing and R&D operations in Marysville and East Liberty have a consistent record of LCA filings for engineering and technical roles. Goodyear's global headquarters in Akron sponsors material science and data engineering positions. Ford's Ohio assembly and supplier network, along with Tier 1 suppliers such as Dana Incorporated and Tenneco, also appear in DOL disclosure data as active STEM OPT sponsors.
Which Ohio cities have the most automotive F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Toledo is Ohio's traditional auto manufacturing hub, with proximity to Michigan's supplier ecosystem making it a strong base for STEM OPT candidates in manufacturing engineering and quality assurance. Columbus and its suburbs attract automotive technology and fleet electrification roles. Akron concentrates polymer and tire engineering positions. Dayton draws aerospace-adjacent automotive systems work, particularly in powertrain and electronics development.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that consistently qualify include manufacturing engineering, quality systems engineering, supply chain analytics, automotive software development, embedded systems design, materials science research, and data science applied to production or vehicle diagnostics. These positions tie directly to STEM-classified degree fields such as engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics, which is the core eligibility requirement for STEM OPT extensions under the 24-month program.
How do I find automotive F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and industry, so you can search for automotive roles in Ohio that employers have designated as STEM OPT eligible without sorting through unsponsored postings. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history in the automotive sector, which helps you focus your applications on companies that have already navigated the sponsorship process for roles similar to yours.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for automotive F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Ohio requires STEM OPT employers to be enrolled in E-Verify, which most large automotive manufacturers and their Tier 1 suppliers already satisfy. Ohio's dense supplier network means many sponsoring positions are with mid-size manufacturers rather than only OEMs, so checking DOL OFLC disclosure data for smaller employers in Toledo, Findlay, and Lima is worthwhile. Your university's DSO must also authorize the STEM OPT extension before employment begins, regardless of employer location.
