How We're Different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

Which science and research companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Washington?
Washington has a dense cluster of research-focused employers with active STEM OPT sponsorship history. The Allen Institute for Brain Science, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, and the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle are among the organizations that have sponsored research roles. Large biotech and pharmaceutical companies operating in the greater Seattle area, including subsidiaries of national firms, also appear regularly in DOL Labor Condition Application filings for STEM-designated research positions.
Which cities in Washington have the most science and research F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the largest concentration of sponsored science and research roles in Washington, anchored by its life sciences corridor, university research hospitals, and proximity to major technology campuses with applied research divisions. Bellevue and Redmond host additional research operations tied to technology sector employers. Richland, in eastern Washington, is home to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and supports a distinct cluster of federal research positions in energy, environmental science, and materials engineering.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Washington?
Roles that qualify generally require a degree in a STEM-designated field and involve research, analysis, or technical work directly related to that field. In Washington, qualifying positions commonly include research scientist, computational biologist, data scientist, environmental scientist, materials scientist, and laboratory research associate roles. The position must appear on the STEM OPT designated degree list published by USCIS, and the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify to lawfully sponsor an extension. O*NET occupation codes are used to confirm degree-to-role alignment.
How do I find science and research F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 STEM OPT job seekers and filters science and research roles by employer sponsorship history, state, and visa type. Because Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data, you can see which Washington employers have an established record of sponsoring STEM-designated research positions, rather than relying on employer self-reporting. Filter by the science and research category and Washington state to reach employers already familiar with STEM OPT extension requirements.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in science and research?
Washington has no state-level visa sponsorship requirement separate from federal STEM OPT rules, but a few practical factors matter here. Federal laboratory roles at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory may involve security clearance requirements that complicate or delay sponsorship for international candidates, so it is worth confirming clearance eligibility before applying. Washington's life sciences sector is concentrated enough that many employers have sponsored international researchers before, which generally means familiarity with the E-Verify enrollment and training plan requirements that STEM OPT extensions demand.
