Which companies sponsor visas for medical assistants in Oregon?
The largest health systems in Oregon, including OHSU, Providence Health & Services, Legacy Health, and PeaceHealth, have histories of sponsoring work visas for clinical roles. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serving rural and underserved communities in Oregon also occasionally sponsor international candidates. Sponsorship is not universal and depends on the employer's workforce needs and HR policies at the time of hiring.
Which visa types are most common for medical assistant roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for international medical assistants in Oregon, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA treaty. Filipino or other foreign-trained clinical professionals sometimes enter through the EB-3 employment-based green card route sponsored by Oregon health systems facing persistent staffing shortages.
Which cities in Oregon have the most medical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Oregon's primary hub for medical assistant sponsorship jobs, driven by the concentration of large health systems and specialty clinics in the metro area. Salem, as the state capital, hosts several regional medical centers with active hiring. Eugene and Bend are secondary markets with growing demand, particularly in outpatient and community health settings that have expanded staffing in recent years.
How to find medical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter by state and job category to surface medical assistant positions in Oregon where employers are open to sponsorship. Because sponsorship availability changes with each hiring cycle, checking Migrate Mate regularly and setting up alerts for Oregon medical assistant roles gives you the most current view of what's available.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical assistants seeking visa sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon does not require medical assistants to hold a state license, but many employers prefer or require national certification such as CMA (AAMA) or RMA. OHSU and other academic medical centers in Oregon often have established international hiring infrastructure, which can streamline the sponsorship process. Oregon's prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules mean employers must meet Department of Labor wage standards for the Portland or regional wage area where the role is based.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical assistant jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
