Which companies sponsor visas for licensed practical nurses in Pennsylvania?
Large health systems with a history of sponsoring international nursing staff in Pennsylvania include UPMC, Jefferson Health, Penn Medicine, Geisinger Health, and Temple Health. Long-term care chains such as Genesis Healthcare, which has significant operations in Pennsylvania, have also filed LCA applications for LPN roles. Smaller regional hospitals and skilled nursing facilities occasionally sponsor as well, particularly in areas with persistent staffing shortages.
Which visa types are most common for licensed practical nurse roles in Pennsylvania?
Most LPN sponsorship in Pennsylvania goes through the EB-3 immigrant visa category, which covers skilled and other workers. Employers file a PERM labor certification followed by an I-140 immigrant petition. The H-1B is generally not applicable to LPN roles because the position typically does not meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree. Some internationally trained nurses enter on J-1 exchange visitor visas through recognized programs before transitioning to employment-based pathways.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most licensed practical nurse sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia concentrates the largest volume of LPN sponsorship opportunities, driven by its dense cluster of academic medical centers and community hospitals. Pittsburgh is a strong secondary market anchored by the UPMC network. Harrisburg, Allentown, and Scranton see consistent LPN demand from regional hospital systems and long-term care facilities serving older populations. Rural and underserved counties across central and western Pennsylvania also post LPN openings, sometimes tied to federal or state workforce incentives.
How to find licensed practical nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate lists LPN roles in Pennsylvania filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, so you can search by location and confirm employer sponsorship history before applying. When reviewing listings, check whether the employer has prior EB-3 or H-1B filings for nursing staff, as this signals established sponsorship infrastructure. Prioritize larger health systems and long-term care operators in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where sponsorship activity for LPN roles is most concentrated.
Are there state-specific considerations for international LPNs seeking work in Pennsylvania?
International LPNs must obtain a Pennsylvania nursing license through the State Board of Nursing before starting work, which requires passing the NCLEX-PN exam and having foreign credentials evaluated. Pennsylvania participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, but only for nurses already licensed in another compact state. Employers initiating EB-3 sponsorship must pay the prevailing wage established by the Department of Labor for the specific county and job classification, which varies across the state's metropolitan and rural areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored licensed practical nurse jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
