Which companies sponsor visas for medical assistants in Pennsylvania?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors for medical assistant roles in Pennsylvania. UPMC in Pittsburgh, Penn Medicine and Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, and Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown have established HR infrastructure to support visa sponsorship. Smaller independent clinics and single-specialty practices rarely sponsor, so focusing on major hospital systems and multisite outpatient groups is the most practical approach.
Which visa types are most common for medical assistant roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B visa is the most recognized work visa, but medical assistant roles often do not qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because a bachelor's degree in a specific field is not universally required. Some international candidates come through the TN visa if Canadian or Mexican, or the J-1 visa exchange visitor program. EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship is another pathway some larger Pennsylvania health systems pursue for clinical support staff.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most medical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia has the highest concentration of medical assistant sponsorship opportunities, driven by its dense cluster of academic medical centers and hospital networks. Pittsburgh is the second-largest market, anchored by UPMC's extensive outpatient and specialty care footprint. Allentown, Harrisburg, and Reading also generate consistent demand as mid-sized regional health systems in those cities expand ambulatory care services.
How to find medical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find medical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania. The platform filters listings specifically to roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving significant time compared to sorting through general job postings. Focusing your search on the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metro areas on Migrate Mate will surface the highest volume of relevant medical assistant openings at health systems actively hiring internationally.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical assistants seeking sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania does not require medical assistants to hold a state license, which means employers have more flexibility in hiring internationally trained candidates. However, many Pennsylvania health systems prefer or require candidates to hold a national certification such as the CMA or RMA credential. UPMC and Penn Medicine also run training pipelines through affiliated community colleges, which can influence how competitive sponsored roles are for external international applicants.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical assistant jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
