Which companies sponsor visas for automation roles in South Carolina?
BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, Michelin North America in Greenville, and Boeing in North Charleston are among the largest employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship activity for engineering and automation roles. Bosch, Volvo Cars, and Siemens also maintain operations in South Carolina with engineering workforces that have historically supported visa sponsorship for qualified automation specialists.
Which visa types are most common for automation roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for automation engineers, controls engineers, and robotics specialists, as these roles typically meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue an O-1 visa. Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying engineering roles may also be eligible for the TN visa.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most automation sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg in the Upstate region concentrate the highest volume of automation sponsorship activity, driven by the automotive and tire manufacturing clusters anchored by BMW and Michelin. Charleston is the second major hub, with aerospace manufacturing at Boeing and a growing industrial base. Columbia sees moderate activity, primarily through defense contractors and university-affiliated research operations.
How to find automation visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse automation roles in South Carolina without manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. You can search by job type and state to surface controls engineers, robotics technicians, and industrial automation roles at manufacturers and defense contractors actively hiring international candidates in the Upstate and Lowcountry regions.
Are there any state-specific considerations for automation professionals seeking sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's concentration of foreign-owned manufacturers, including BMW, Michelin, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz Vans, means many large employers already have established immigration processes and in-house or retained counsel experienced with H-1B filings. Clemson University's graduate engineering programs also produce a pipeline of international talent that feeds directly into the Upstate manufacturing corridor, which some employers actively recruit from.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automation jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
