Which technology companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in South Carolina?
South Carolina technology employers that have structured internship programs compatible with F-1 CPT include Blackbaud (a cloud software company headquartered in Charleston), Benefitfocus, and technology arms of larger employers like Michelin North America and BMW Manufacturing. Defense and government IT contractors operating near Fort Jackson and Shaw Air Force Base also hire CPT-authorized interns in software and systems roles. Sponsorship practices vary by company and hiring cycle.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most technology F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbia holds the largest concentration of technology CPT opportunities, driven by the University of South Carolina's proximity to state government IT agencies and defense contractors. Greenville is the second major hub, supported by manufacturing-adjacent software employers. Charleston has a growing fintech and SaaS presence centered around companies like Blackbaud and Benefitfocus. The Fort Mill and Rock Hill corridor benefits from spillover hiring from the greater Charlotte technology market just across the border.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
F-1 CPT authorization applies to roles that are an integral part of your degree program curriculum, so qualifying technology positions typically include software engineering internships, data analytics roles, IT systems administration, cybersecurity, and UX or product management positions tied to a relevant STEM degree. Your DSO must confirm the role directly relates to your major. Roles that function purely as general administrative support, even within a technology company, generally do not qualify.
How do I find technology F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters technology F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in South Carolina by employer, city, and role type, so you are not sifting through listings from employers who do not work with CPT candidates. Beyond Migrate Mate, your university's career services office can connect you with South Carolina employers who have existing relationships with international student programs, which can meaningfully shorten the process of confirming CPT eligibility with a specific employer.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 CPT technology jobs in South Carolina?
South Carolina does not impose state-level restrictions on CPT work authorization beyond federal DSO requirements. One practical consideration is that many of the state's larger technology employers are tied to defense, government IT, or manufacturing sectors, some of which require security clearances that F-1 students are generally not eligible to obtain. It is worth confirming clearance requirements with an employer before applying to avoid investing time in a process that cannot be completed on F-1 status.
