Which companies sponsor visas for program directors in Tennessee?
Healthcare organizations are among the most active sponsors for program director roles in Tennessee, including HCA Healthcare, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Tennessee-based hospital networks. Universities such as Vanderbilt, the University of Tennessee, and Tennessee State University also sponsor program directors in academic and research settings. Large nonprofits and government contractors operating in Nashville and Memphis round out the sponsoring employer pool.
Which visa types are most common for program director roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for program directors in Tennessee, as the role typically requires a bachelor's or advanced degree in a relevant field like public health, education administration, or business. Candidates with exceptional records in their field may also qualify for the O-1A. Those already holding a green card or on OPT with STEM extension may find broader employer interest given lower sponsorship complexity.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most program director sponsorship jobs?
Nashville concentrates the largest share of program director sponsorship opportunities in Tennessee, driven by its healthcare industry, higher education institutions, and expanding corporate headquarters. Knoxville is active in research and university-affiliated program management, particularly through the University of Tennessee system. Memphis has a presence in healthcare networks and nonprofit program management, making it a secondary market worth targeting for international applicants.

Are there state-specific considerations for program director visa sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee's healthcare-dominant economy means many program director roles are tied to clinical or public health programs, where employers are experienced with H-1B sponsorship and familiar with prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor. Academic institutions in the state often have dedicated international hiring offices, which can streamline the sponsorship process. Candidates with backgrounds in health administration, public policy, or research program management tend to align well with Tennessee's hiring patterns.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program director jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
