Which investment management companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Texas?
Several large asset managers and financial firms with Texas operations have sponsored F-1 STEM OPT workers, including Fidelity Investments in Dallas, BlackRock's Houston presence, and quantitative trading firms operating in the Austin technology corridor. Regional investment advisers and fintech companies headquartered in Texas also appear in DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data as active STEM OPT sponsors for finance and analytics roles.
Which cities in Texas have the most investment management F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in investment management sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of energy-focused asset managers, private equity firms, and commodity trading operations. Dallas-Fort Worth ranks closely behind, with major financial services employers and regional headquarters of national asset managers. Austin has grown significantly as fintech and quantitative investment firms expand there, creating STEM OPT opportunities for graduates with mathematics, statistics, and computer science backgrounds.
What types of investment management roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT sponsorship in investment management typically fall under degree programs classified as STEM by the Department of Homeland Security. Quantitative analyst, risk analyst, data scientist, and portfolio analytics associate positions frequently qualify when tied to degrees in mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, or computer science. General relationship management or sales-oriented roles without a direct STEM degree connection are less likely to qualify under standard STEM OPT criteria.

Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters investment management roles in Texas by employers with verified F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, so you avoid firms that have no track record of supporting OPT students. You can search by city, role type, and employer size to find quantitative, risk, and analytics positions in Houston, Dallas, and Austin where STEM OPT sponsorship is a realistic outcome based on DOL filing data.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT in Texas investment management?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how compensation is structured but does not change STEM OPT eligibility rules set by USCIS and DHS. Investment management firms in Texas often operate under SEC or FINRA oversight, and some roles may require licensing exams such as the Series 65, which STEM OPT authorization does not restrict. Students should confirm with their Designated School Official that their specific degree program appears on the DHS STEM OPT eligible program list before accepting a role.
