Which companies sponsor visas for school nurses in Virginia?
Fairfax County Public Schools, Prince William County Public Schools, and Virginia Beach City Public Schools are among the largest employers of school nurses in Virginia and have histories of sponsoring foreign-trained nurses. Hospital systems with school health contracts, including Inova and VCU Health, also hire school nurses and have established immigration sponsorship infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for school nurses in Virginia, as registered nursing roles in school settings typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in nursing. The EB-3 immigrant visa is another pathway, often used by public school districts. Some school nurses from Australia may also qualify for the E-3 visa.
Which cities in Virginia have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Fairfax and Prince William counties, has the highest concentration of school nurse sponsorship opportunities due to the size and diversity of the public school systems there. Richmond and Virginia Beach also have active hiring pipelines. These metro areas have large international communities, which often correlates with employer familiarity with visa sponsorship processes.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to search for school nurse roles in Virginia without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role type to surface openings from Virginia school districts and affiliated health employers actively recruiting internationally trained nurses.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia requires school nurses to hold a valid Registered Nurse license from the Virginia Board of Nursing, and internationally trained nurses must have their credentials evaluated for equivalency before licensure. Virginia public school employers sponsoring H-1B workers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are benchmarked to local registered nursing rates. The Northern Virginia market is particularly competitive due to proximity to federal agencies and healthcare systems.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
