Which companies sponsor visas for solutions architects in Virginia?
Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, and DXC Technology are among the Virginia employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for solutions architect roles. Northern Virginia's concentration of cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and defense IT firms means sponsoring employers tend to require experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP alongside enterprise architecture frameworks.
Which visa types are most common for solutions architect roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for solutions architects in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa using the Systems Analyst or Engineer designations depending on the specific role scope.
How to find solutions architect visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters solutions architect roles specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, letting you focus on Virginia-based employers who have sponsored before rather than applying broadly and asking later. Because Northern Virginia's market includes both commercial tech firms and government contractors, filtering by employer type on Migrate Mate helps identify which openings are accessible without a security clearance already in hand.
Which cities in Virginia have the most solutions architect sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia cities dominate, with Herndon, Reston, McLean, Arlington, and Tysons consistently generating the most solutions architect sponsorship activity. Herndon in particular houses a significant number of cloud and defense IT employers. Richmond has a smaller but growing market tied to financial services and state government IT modernization projects, and it occasionally surfaces sponsorship-eligible architect roles.
Are there any Virginia-specific factors that affect solutions architect sponsorship?
Virginia's heavy defense contracting sector means many solutions architect roles list security clearance eligibility as a preference or requirement, which can complicate sponsorship since clearances are generally not accessible to most visa holders. Employers tied to federal contracts may face additional scrutiny around hiring foreign nationals. Targeting commercial cloud, consulting, and SaaS employers in Northern Virginia typically offers more straightforward sponsorship pathways for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored solutions architect jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
