Which companies sponsor visas for technical program managers in Virginia?
Northern Virginia's federal IT sector is the primary source of TPM sponsorship, with companies like Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, and Perspecta filing regularly for this role. Major technology firms including Amazon Web Services (which has a significant Herndon and Arlington presence), Microsoft, and Accenture Federal Services also sponsor technical program managers in Virginia.
Which visa types are most common for technical program manager roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for technical program managers in Virginia, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Some candidates also enter through the L-1A or L-1B for intracompany transfers. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role clearly maps to an eligible TN occupation.
Which cities in Virginia have the most technical program manager sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia dominates, with Herndon, Reston, McLean, Arlington, and Tysons Corner accounting for the large majority of TPM openings tied to government contracting and cloud infrastructure. Chantilly and Fairfax also have a strong presence given their proximity to federal agencies. Richmond has a smaller but growing tech sector, and Virginia Beach occasionally posts TPM roles tied to defense and logistics technology.
How to find technical program manager visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for technical program manager roles in Virginia without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. Given the volume of defense contractor and government IT postings in Northern Virginia, filtering by employer type alongside sponsorship status helps narrow results to the most relevant opportunities for international candidates.
Are there any Virginia-specific factors that affect technical program manager sponsorship?
Security clearance requirements are a significant consideration in Virginia's federal contracting market. Many TPM roles tied to Department of Defense or intelligence community projects require a U.S. security clearance, which is not available to non-U.S. persons, effectively limiting sponsorship at those employers. Candidates without clearance should prioritize commercial technology firms and non-classified government IT work, where sponsorship is more accessible.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical program manager jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
