The Integration Engineering team focuses on using Workato for external vendor integrations and workflows, with the goal of providing significant development acceleration.
What you will do

- Engineering Excellence: Write clean, modular code and implement complex functionalities. You will champion the "Software Engineering" side of iPaaS—implementing circuit breakers, robust error-handling frameworks, and automated testing.
- System Integration: Leverage advanced programming skills to build custom SDK connectors and complex transformations, ensuring high-performance communication between disparate systems.
- Quality & Resilience: Conduct comprehensive system testing, debugging, and peer code reviews. You are responsible for the reliability and stability of the integration layer, ensuring it scales linearly with our growth.
- Stakeholder Leadership: Act as a technical consultant to Product and Business leads. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and propose design patterns that simplify complex workflows.
- Innovation & AI: Explore new tools and frameworks to drive innovation. You will incorporate AI/ML into the development process to "work smarter" and create more intelligent automation.
- Documentation & Governance: Create and maintain high-quality system designs, architecture diagrams, and API best practices to ensure effective knowledge transfer and prepare the organization for federation and platform self-service.
- Coding Proficiency: While we use Workato, you must be proficient in at least one major language (Ruby, Python, or JavaScript) for custom development.
- Systems Design: Proven ability to design high-volume, asynchronous systems. You understand race conditions, idempotent API design, and rate-limiting (Salesforce, Epic/FHIR). Hands-on experience with Event-Driven Architecture (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or Webhooks) is a plus.

Which biotech and pharma companies sponsor E-3 visas in Washington DC?
Employers with a track record of E-3 and H-1B sponsorship in the DC area include Emergent BioSolutions, MedImmune (an AstraZeneca subsidiary based in nearby Gaithersburg, Maryland), and a range of contract research organizations and government health contractors. Many life sciences firms operating near the FDA and NIH campuses also sponsor specialty occupation roles for qualified international candidates.
Which cities in Washington DC have the most biotech and pharma E-3 sponsorship jobs?
Washington DC itself hosts policy-facing roles at health agencies and nonprofits, but the densest concentration of lab-based biotech and pharma positions sits in the broader metro area, particularly Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Bethesda in Montgomery County, Maryland. These suburbs form one of the largest life sciences clusters in the country, largely driven by proximity to the NIH campus and FDA headquarters.
What types of biotech and pharma roles typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Roles that typically qualify are those requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific scientific or technical field. In biotech and pharma, this includes positions such as research scientist, regulatory affairs specialist, clinical data analyst, bioinformatics specialist, and quality assurance manager. The key requirement is that the role constitutes a specialty occupation under E-3 rules, meaning a theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge is genuinely required.
How do I find biotech & pharma E-3 sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters job listings by visa type and industry, so you can browse biotech and pharma roles in Washington DC where employers have indicated E-3 sponsorship willingness. This is significantly more efficient than searching general job boards where sponsorship status is rarely disclosed upfront, which is especially important given how competitive life sciences hiring in the DMV area can be.
Are there any DC-specific considerations for biotech and pharma E-3 sponsorship?
The DC metro life sciences market is heavily influenced by federal funding cycles and proximity to regulatory bodies like the FDA and NIH. Many positions involve work that intersects with government contracts or grant-funded research, which can affect how quickly employers move through the hiring and sponsorship process. Australian candidates should also note that roles requiring security clearances may add complexity to sponsorship timelines, even when the employer is otherwise willing to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 biotech & pharma jobs in Washington DC?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
