Which companies sponsor visas for solutions architects in Washington DC?
Federal contractors and technology firms are the most active sponsors in the DC area. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, Deloitte Federal, and AWS regularly sponsor H-1B visas for solutions architect roles. Cloud platform vendors and large systems integrators supporting government agencies also sponsor consistently, given the high demand for specialized cloud, security, and enterprise architecture expertise in the region.
Which visa types are most common for solutions architect roles in Washington DC?
The H-1B is the most common visa for solutions architects in DC, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Candidates with advanced credentials may also find employers open to O-1A petitions. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN visa status for qualifying technology roles.
How to find solutions architect visa sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to find solutions architect roles in Washington DC without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Given how many DC-area employers require security clearances or prefer candidates already in status, filtering for confirmed sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate saves significant time during your search.
Which areas in Washington DC have the most solutions architect sponsorship jobs?
Washington DC itself is the primary hub, but the broader metro area includes major technology and contracting corridors in Northern Virginia, particularly around Tysons Corner, Reston, and Arlington, as well as parts of Maryland near Bethesda and Rockville. Many federal contractors and cloud vendors concentrate their technical hiring in these Northern Virginia corridors, which are among the densest areas for solutions architect sponsorship roles in the country.
Are there any DC-specific considerations for solutions architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Security clearance eligibility is a significant factor in the DC market. Many solutions architect roles supporting federal agencies require a Secret or Top Secret clearance, which non-US citizens are generally ineligible to hold, narrowing the sponsored pool to commercial and cleared-civilian-adjacent work. Employers sponsoring international candidates typically focus on commercial cloud practices or unclassified government work. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B still apply and are set at levels reflecting DC's competitive technology market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored solutions architect jobs in Washington DC?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
