TITLE: Part-Time Bilingual Teaching Assistant (BTA) Instructor

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Bilingual Teaching Instructor supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Bilingual Teaching Assistant (BTA) Training Program while providing high-quality instruction to adult learners. The role creates engaging learning experiences that address diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and English language abilities. The Instructor is responsible for curriculum development, lesson planning, student assessment, practicum coordination, certification preparation, and maintenance of student records. The position combines instructional excellence with program administration to ensure successful student outcomes, program completion, and workforce readiness.

CORE WORKSTREAMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Excellence and Student Learning

• Design and deliver engaging instruction aligned with program goals, DCPS/DCPCSB requirements, and ETS certification guidelines.
• Create lesson plans, instructional materials, syllabi, and formative assessments tailored to student learning needs.
• Foster a positive learning environment that promotes participation, collaboration, interpersonal growth, and effective classroom management.
• Adapt instructional approaches to differentiate for varying academic abilities, learning styles, and language proficiency levels.
• Collaborate with students to identify academic and career readiness goals.
• Prepare students for careers in educational settings through instruction in bilingual education, English learner education, adult education, and special education.

Progress Monitoring and Certification Readiness

• Evaluate and document student progress through assessments, testing, observations, and performance tracking.
• Maintain accurate academic records, attendance data, certification requirements, and student progress documentation.
• Monitor student achievement and implement interventions that support successful program completion.
• Provide portfolio resources throughout the semester for students to complete reflections and consolidation of learning. Ensure all students have the opportunity to complete the portfolio by the end of the semester.
• Prepare students for optional industry-recognized certification opportunities, including an ETS Assessment and Seal of Biliteracy.

Program Operations, Collaboration, and Student Success

• Collaborate with Career Training and Curriculum team members to support curriculum planning, program implementation, and continuous improvement.
• Support graduation ceremonies, recognition events, job readiness workshops, and other student success initiatives.
• Assist with recruitment activities and pre-screening of prospective BTA candidates during each enrollment cycle.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and program planning efforts.

Practicum Coordination and Educational Partnerships

• Ensure practicum activities align with program objectives and professional standards.
• Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners to ensure program success in partnership efforts with partner schools.
• Oversee student practicum placements and monitor student performance during field-based experiences through formal on-site observations.
• Support students in connecting classroom learning with real-world educational practice via portfolio reflections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

Knowledge, Expertise, and Skills

• In-depth knowledge of two or more of the following: adult education, K-12, special education, bilingual/immersion education, English learner education, preferably in the District of Columbia.
• Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suite, and basic knowledge of educational technology tools.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to clearly explain concepts, manage multiple priorities, and consistently complete tasks accurately and on time.
• Deep commitment to CRIPCS's core values and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bilingual strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Measurement, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field required.
• At least 5 years of previous experience teaching multilingual learners with perspectives and experience in K-12 settings.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

• A competitive starting annual salary range of $30.28 to $62.82 per hour commensurate with experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move throughout school facilities and partner locations as needed.
• Must be able to supervise classroom and practicum activities.
• Must be able to use computers, instructional technology, and office equipment regularly.
• Ability to occasionally move instructional materials and supplies up to 30 pounds.
