Job Description
At Nordstrom, we embrace “One Good Way” as a path to efficiency, scaling, and speed of implementation. This is a rare opportunity to reimagine how Nordstrom flows product, replacing legacy systems with a modern, automated distribution network built to power decades of growth. The Director of Distribution Center Engineering will own that transformation end to end: setting the automation strategy for our entire distribution center network, from technology roadmap through vendor selection, governance, deployment and optimization. This role resides in the Engineering & Systems organization and partners closely with Supply Chain Operations, Product, and Technology leaders to turn bold ideas into reality, leveraging automation and process optimization to deliver results. Success means investments that hold up operationally, build a stronger team member experience and elevate customer experience for years to come.
A day in the life…
- Define the automation strategy and technology roadmap for Nordstrom’s distribution center network.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and ongoing management of automation technologies, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Build the business case and ROI model behind each investment to drive prioritization of the most impactful initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement and process optimization across end to end workflows to raise the bar across safety, quality, cycle time, productivity, and team member experience.
- Set readiness criteria, success metrics, and governance processes that move initiatives from concept to deployment in a disciplined way.
- Ensure investments deliver measurable business value while improving safety, productivity, and the team member experience.
- Translate technical and operational findings into strategic recommendations.
- Champion the customer in every automation decision, ensuring speed, accuracy, and reliability in the distribution network translate into a better experience for the people who shop with us.
- Partner with Operations, Product, and Software Engineering so automation runs as a connected capability rather than a standalone system.
- Negotiate vendor contracts and manage external technology partnerships.
- Build, mentor, and develop a world class team of technical leaders and subject matter experts.
You own this if you have…
- Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in engineering, supply chain, or a related field.
- Experience leading automation, robotics, or supply chain technology initiatives at scale.
- Experience evaluating new technologies, conducting due diligence, and managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations.
- Ability to build technology roadmaps that hold up at the enterprise level.
- Experience developing business cases and ROI models for capital investments.
- A track record of taking technology from pilot through full network deployment.
- Working knowledge of warehouse automation, material handling systems, and robotics integration.
- Strong cross-functional leadership across engineering, operations, product, and technology stakeholders.
- Executive communication skills, including the ability to make complex technical tradeoffs clear to non-technical audiences.
- Experience building and developing high-performing technical teams.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement and lean methodologies applied to process optimization.
- 8+ years of engineering, automation, or supply chain leadership experience.
- Ability to travel 25-50%.

Search Director Of Program Management Jobs in WashingtonDirector Of Program Management Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for director of program management roles in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, and T-Mobile are among the most consistent sponsors for director of program management positions in Washington. Smaller technology firms in the Seattle metro, biotech companies in the South Lake Union corridor, and defense contractors serving Joint Base Lewis-McChord also file H-1B visa petitions for senior program management leadership. Sponsorship activity is concentrated in Redmond, Seattle, and Bellevue.
Which visa types are most common for director of program management roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for director of program management roles in Washington, as the position typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field such as engineering, business administration, or computer science. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify under the TN visa category. Senior candidates with exceptional records may also pursue the O-1A for extraordinary ability.
Which cities in Washington have the most director of program management sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Redmond account for the majority of director of program management sponsorship opportunities in Washington, driven by the headquarters presence of Amazon and Microsoft respectively. Bellevue has grown significantly as a secondary tech hub, with companies like Expedia and T-Mobile maintaining large program management functions there. Tacoma sees more limited but consistent demand through aerospace and defense contractors.
How to find director of program management visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find director of program management roles in Washington without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results to Washington state and the specific role type to surface openings at companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing that have active sponsorship histories for senior program management leaders.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for director of program management visa sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons when the Department of Labor certifies Labor Condition Applications for H-1B petitions. Employers in the state must still meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area, which reflects the region's competitive technology compensation environment. Washington's concentration of large H-1B-dependent employers means program management leadership roles here have an established sponsorship infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored director of program management jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
