Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Washington?
The largest physician visa sponsors in Washington include UW Medicine, MultiCare Health System, Providence Health and Services, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, and Seattle Children's. Community health centers operating under FQHC designation, such as Sea Mar Community Health Centers, also regularly sponsor physicians, particularly for primary care and underserved-area positions. Hospital systems in Spokane and Tacoma are also consistent sponsors for specialty roles.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for physicians in Washington, as most physician roles qualify as specialty occupations requiring a medical degree and licensure. The J-1 visa is also widely used for physicians completing residency or fellowship programs at institutions like UW Medicine, though J-1 holders are subject to a two-year home residency requirement unless they obtain a waiver through programs such as the Conrad 30 waiver.
Which cities in Washington have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Seattle has the highest concentration of physician sponsorship jobs in Washington, anchored by UW Medicine, Seattle Children's, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Spokane is a secondary hub, with major employers including Providence Sacred Heart and MultiCare Deaconess. Tacoma and Bellevue also have active hiring markets. Rural areas across eastern Washington and the Olympic Peninsula frequently post sponsored positions due to persistent primary care shortages.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters physician jobs in Washington specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can browse roles without sorting through positions that don't offer it. Washington's market includes both large academic health systems and community health centers, and sponsorship availability varies significantly by employer type and specialty. Using Migrate Mate to narrow by location and role helps identify which Washington employers are actively hiring internationally trained physicians.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for physician visa sponsorship?
Washington participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area for at least three years. Washington's state Office of Rural Health coordinates this program, and positions in rural eastern Washington and underserved urban clinics are frequently eligible. Prevailing wage determinations for physician H-1B petitions in Washington are set by the Department of Labor based on specialty and location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
