Which companies sponsor visas for social workers in Washington?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors. UW Medicine, Providence Health, and MultiCare Health System have sponsored social workers in clinical and behavioral health roles. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and nonprofit organizations like Catholic Community Services also hire internationally, though sponsorship availability depends on the specific role, funding structure, and whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards.
Which visa types are most common for social work roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for licensed clinical social workers in Washington, as roles requiring an MSW and state licensure generally meet the specialty occupation standard. The O-1A applies to social workers with exceptional recognition in research or policy. Some positions in academic medical centers or public universities may qualify as cap-exempt, allowing employers to file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery.
Which cities in Washington have the most social work sponsorship jobs?
Seattle concentrates the most opportunities, driven by major hospital systems, behavioral health agencies, and a large nonprofit sector. Tacoma and Spokane also have meaningful demand, particularly in child welfare, substance use treatment, and hospital social work. Bellevue and the broader Eastside tech corridor see demand for employee assistance and corporate wellness social work roles tied to large technology employers.
How to find social work visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate aggregates visa sponsorship jobs and lets you filter specifically by role and state, making it straightforward to browse social work positions in Washington where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because social work sponsorship depends heavily on licensure type, practice setting, and employer size, filtering by those criteria on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to roles most likely to support an H-1B or other work visa petition.
Are there state-specific considerations for social work visa sponsorship in Washington?
Washington requires Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker credentials from the Department of Health for most clinical roles, and employers typically need proof of licensure eligibility before initiating sponsorship. University of Washington and Washington State University graduate programs produce a pipeline of MSW graduates that shapes regional hiring norms. Clinical roles tied to Medicaid billing tend to have stricter licensure requirements, which can affect whether a position qualifies as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored social work jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
