Which legal companies sponsor TN visas in Washington?
Large Seattle-based law firms such as Perkins Coie, Stoel Rives, and Fenwick & West have histories of sponsoring international legal professionals. In-house legal departments at major Washington employers, including technology companies like Microsoft and Amazon, also sponsor TN visas for qualifying legal roles. Smaller regional firms and government contractors in the state occasionally sponsor as well, depending on hiring needs.
Which cities in Washington have the most legal TN sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the largest share of legal TN sponsorship opportunities in Washington, driven by its concentration of national law firms, technology company headquarters, and financial services employers. Bellevue has grown significantly as a legal hiring market given its tech and corporate presence. Spokane and Tacoma offer additional opportunities, particularly with regional law firms, healthcare systems, and government-adjacent legal work.
What types of legal roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship?
Under the TN visa category, the qualifying legal occupation is specifically Lawyer. To qualify, the applicant must hold a bachelor of laws or juris doctor degree, or foreign equivalent, and the role must require that legal expertise. In-house counsel positions, associate attorney roles, and compliance-adjacent roles requiring a law degree at Washington employers are the most common qualifying positions. Paralegal and legal assistant roles generally do not qualify under the TN legal professional category.
How do I find legal TN sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter legal roles by visa type, including TN, and by state, so you can focus on Washington employers open to sponsorship. Because TN-eligible legal roles are narrowly defined, filtering by visa category upfront saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship later. Migrate Mate's job board is updated regularly with verified sponsoring employers.
Are there any state-specific considerations for TN legal sponsorship in Washington?
Washington does not require foreign-licensed attorneys to obtain a Washington State Bar license solely to work as in-house counsel, but practicing law in Washington courts or advising clients directly on Washington law typically requires bar admission. Canadian and Mexican nationals working as in-house lawyers for a single employer in a non-practicing capacity face fewer licensing complications. Applicants should confirm the specific role's requirements with the hiring employer and a qualified immigration attorney before applying.
