Which companies sponsor visas for licensed practical nurses in Wisconsin?
Large health systems with established HR and immigration infrastructure are the most consistent sponsors. Froedtert Health, UW Health in Madison, and Advocate Aurora Health have sponsored foreign national nurses in the past. Long-term care operators and nursing home chains, including facilities affiliated with national groups, also sponsor LPNs in Wisconsin, particularly where staffing shortages are most acute in rural and suburban markets.
Which visa types are most common for licensed practical nurse roles in Wisconsin?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for LPNs, as the role is classified under Schedule A, meaning employers can skip the PERM labor certification step. Some LPNs enter on H-1B visas, though this is less common since the role doesn't always meet specialty occupation criteria. Employers occasionally use the H-1C for nurse shortage areas, but this category is rarely used in practice.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most licensed practical nurse sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is the largest market, driven by Froedtert Health and the dense concentration of hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities in the metro area. Madison follows closely given UW Health's size and the broader healthcare ecosystem around the university. Green Bay, Appleton, and Racine also generate LPN openings, and rural counties across central and northern Wisconsin often have the most urgent staffing needs relative to their size.
How to find licensed practical nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that offer visa sponsorship, so you can search licensed practical nurse positions in Wisconsin without manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. The platform is designed for international job seekers, meaning the LPN roles shown have been identified as sponsorship-eligible. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the hiring process.
Are there state-specific considerations for licensed practical nurses seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin requires LPNs to hold a valid state license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. International candidates typically need to have their foreign nursing credentials evaluated before licensure, which adds time to the onboarding process. Wisconsin is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a Wisconsin license does not automatically transfer to other states. Employers sponsoring LPNs will generally expect candidates to have NCLEX-PN results in hand or a clear plan to sit the exam.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored licensed practical nurse jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
