Target employers with a sponsorship track record
Companies that have filed H-1B petitions for commercial roles before are far more likely to sponsor again. Look for employers in enterprise software, consulting, and financial services, where Commercial Lead positions are well-established and sponsorship infrastructure already exists.
Align your degree to the role's field requirements
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the Commercial Lead function. Degrees in business administration, economics, finance, or marketing map cleanly. If your degree is in an unrelated field, relevant work experience and advanced credentials can strengthen your petition.
Get the specialty occupation framing right
Commercial Lead roles must clear the specialty occupation bar. Emphasize that the position requires theoretical and practical application of business strategy, revenue operations, or market analysis, not just general management skills that any bachelor's degree holder could perform.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before accepting an offer
Confirm whether the employer covers H-1B filing fees, legal costs, and premium processing before signing. Large employers legally cannot pass certain fees to employees, but smaller companies may try. Get sponsorship commitments in writing as part of your offer discussion.
Factor in H-1B lottery timing for your job search
H-1B registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT or a grace period, map your offer timeline against lottery dates. Cap-exempt employers, nonprofits, universities, and government research organizations, can file year-round without lottery constraints.
Consider O-1A if your commercial track record is strong
Commercial Leads with documented revenue impact, industry awards, high-profile client wins, or media coverage may qualify for the O-1A extraordinary ability visa. It bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be filed any time of year with no annual cap.

Find Commercial Lead JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Commercial Lead role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, business, finance, economics, or marketing all qualify. The key is that the job description must demonstrate the role requires specialized theoretical knowledge, not just general business experience any degree could support. Roles focused on revenue strategy, enterprise deal structuring, or market expansion typically clear this bar.
What visa options are available for Commercial Lead roles beyond H-1B?
Australians can use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and 10,500 annual slots that have never been exhausted. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under the TN visa for management consultants or economists, depending on how the role is scoped. O-1A is an option for candidates with a verifiable track record of commercial success, client impact, or industry recognition. L-1A covers transfers for those already employed by a multinational.
Where can I find Commercial Lead jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates who need sponsorship, every listing is from employers open to visa sponsorship, so you're not filtering through hundreds of roles that won't work for your situation. Commercial Lead positions appear regularly in tech, SaaS, and financial services verticals on the platform.
Does my degree need to be in a specific field to support a Commercial Lead H-1B petition?
It needs to relate to the work being performed, but the field doesn't have to be an exact match. A degree in business administration, economics, finance, marketing, or even engineering can support a Commercial Lead petition if the role involves business development, revenue operations, or market strategy. A general studies or unrelated degree creates risk, your employer's immigration attorney will typically flag this early in the process.
How does job-hopping between commercial roles affect my visa situation?
Each employer change on an H-1B requires a new petition unless you're transferring to a cap-exempt employer. Your new employer must file before you start, and the 60-day grace period after leaving a job gives you limited runway. For E-3 holders, you need to secure a new Labor Condition Application and typically return to a consulate for a new visa stamp. Plan the transition before you resign, not after.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Commercial Lead jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
