Target academic medical centers with epilepsy programs
Universities with comprehensive epilepsy centers frequently sponsor international physicians. These institutions value research experience and often have established visa sponsorship processes for medical faculty positions.
Highlight your fellowship training and board certification
Completed neurology residency plus epilepsy fellowship strongly supports H-1B specialty occupation requirements. Board certification in neurology with epilepsy subspecialty certification adds significant credibility to petition.
Emphasize research publications and clinical expertise
Publications in epilepsy journals, conference presentations, and specialized training in EEG interpretation or epilepsy surgery evaluation demonstrate the advanced knowledge required for O-1 classification.
Consider J-1 waiver opportunities in underserved areas
Many states designate epilepsy care as a shortage specialty. J-1 physicians can pursue National Interest Act waivers by committing to practice in underserved communities.
Document your specialized procedures and techniques
Experience with video-EEG monitoring, intracranial electrode placement, or ketogenic diet management demonstrates subspecialty expertise that supports both H-1B petitions and National Interest Waiver applications for green cards.
Network through epilepsy societies and conferences
American Epilepsy Society meetings and regional epilepsy conferences provide direct access to department heads at sponsoring institutions. Many academic positions are filled through professional networking rather than job boards.

Find Epileptologist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do epileptologists qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, epileptologists qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty physicians. You need completed neurology residency plus epilepsy fellowship training, which satisfies the bachelor's degree requirement in a specialized field. Most academic medical centers and large hospital systems regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for epileptologists, especially those with research experience or subspecialty training.
What degree requirements apply for epileptologist visa sponsorship?
You need an MD or foreign medical degree equivalent, completed neurology residency, and epilepsy fellowship training. For H-1B petitions, USCIS recognizes medical degrees as meeting specialty occupation requirements when combined with residency and fellowship training. Board certification in neurology with epilepsy subspecialty certification strengthens the petition significantly.
Can epileptologists get O-1 visas for extraordinary ability?
Yes, epileptologists can qualify for O-1 visas by demonstrating extraordinary ability in medicine. Strong candidates typically have research publications in epilepsy journals, leadership roles in epilepsy societies, awards for clinical excellence, or expertise in specialized procedures like epilepsy surgery evaluation. Academic positions with research components often support O-1 petitions more easily than purely clinical roles.
Which employers commonly sponsor visas for epileptologists?
Academic medical centers with comprehensive epilepsy programs are the most common sponsors, including university hospitals and children's hospitals with pediatric epilepsy programs. Large healthcare systems like Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Kaiser Permanente also sponsor epileptologists. Private epilepsy centers and neurology groups may sponsor but typically require demonstrated patient volume to justify the investment.
How to find Epileptologist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Epileptologist positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international medical professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on major hospital systems, academic medical centers, and neurology specialty clinics that commonly sponsor H-1B and O-1 visas for specialized physicians. These healthcare institutions often have established sponsorship programs for qualified neurologists.
Can foreign epileptologists pursue green cards through National Interest Waiver?
Yes, many epileptologists qualify for EB-2 National Interest Waivers, especially those practicing in underserved areas or conducting epilepsy research. Your specialized training in seizure disorders serves national healthcare interests, particularly in areas with limited access to epilepsy care. Physicians with research publications, clinical trials involvement, or expertise in pediatric epilepsy have stronger NIW cases.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Epileptologist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
