Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Field Service Specialist
Target industries with high sponsorship rates
Medical device, semiconductor, and industrial automation companies file the most LCAs for Field Service Specialists. Focusing your search on these sectors significantly improves your odds of finding an employer willing to sponsor your visa.
Confirm the role requires a specific degree
H-1B eligibility depends on the job qualifying as a specialty occupation. Field service roles tied to biomedical, electrical, or mechanical engineering degrees are strong candidates. Generalist technician roles without a degree requirement often don't qualify.
Ask about sponsorship before the final interview round
Many companies sponsor visas but don't advertise it. Raise the topic after a recruiter confirms genuine interest in your candidacy. Asking too early can screen you out before they've assessed your technical fit for the position.
Document your field certifications alongside your degree
Employers sponsoring H-1B visas need to demonstrate the role requires at least a bachelor's degree. OEM certifications, manufacturer training credentials, and specialized technical licenses strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your petition.
Use Migrate Mate to find pre-screened sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters job listings to companies with active sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that an employer won't support your visa application.

Find Field Service Specialist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can a Field Service Specialist role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but it depends on how the role is defined. A Field Service Specialist position qualifies for H-1B sponsorship when the employer can demonstrate it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, such as biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics. Roles described as requiring any technical degree, or no degree at all, are routinely challenged by USCIS as not meeting the specialty occupation standard.
Which visa categories are most common for Field Service Specialists?
H-1B is the most common pathway for this title at companies that sponsor. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status if their role falls under engineer or scientist categories defined by USMCA. Australian citizens should explore the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is significantly easier to obtain. The right category depends on your nationality, your degree, and how the employer has written the job description.
Do employers commonly sponsor Field Service Specialists, or is this title hard to get sponsored?
Sponsorship is common in specific industries, less so in others. Medical device manufacturers, semiconductor equipment companies, and industrial automation firms regularly file H-1B petitions for this title because their field service work is genuinely engineering-level. Generalist field service roles in HVAC, retail equipment, or general IT support are harder to sponsor because the specialty occupation argument is weaker. Browse Migrate Mate to identify companies in high-sponsorship industries actively hiring for this role.
Does my degree need to be in a specific field to support a Field Service Specialist H-1B?
Yes. The degree must align directly with the technical requirements of the specific role. A biomedical engineering degree supports a medical imaging field service position. An electrical engineering degree supports roles servicing power or semiconductor equipment. A general business or unrelated science degree typically won't satisfy the specialty occupation requirement for this title, even if you have significant hands-on technical experience in the field.
What happens to my visa status if I'm assigned to work at multiple customer sites?
Field service roles often involve working at client locations, which creates an H-1B compliance issue called third-party placement. Your employer must file an amended H-1B petition and a new Labor Condition Application each time your primary worksite changes to a new location not listed on the original petition. Failing to do this can jeopardize your status. Confirm with your employer before accepting the role that they have a process for managing LCA compliance across multiple work locations.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Field Service Specialist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
