Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Javascript Developer
Confirm the role requires a relevant degree
H-1B approval depends on the job qualifying as a specialty occupation. JavaScript developer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, not just any degree. Confirm the job posting reflects this.
Target employers with a sponsorship track record
Companies that have sponsored JavaScript developers before are far more likely to do it again. Prior H-1B filings are public record. Prioritize employers with consistent sponsorship history in software development rather than those sponsoring for the first time.
Cap-exempt employers expand your options significantly
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and affiliated organizations are exempt from the H-1B lottery. JavaScript developers at these employers can receive approvals year-round without lottery risk, making them worth targeting even if pay is lower.
Frame your specialization clearly in your application
Full-stack, front-end, and back-end JavaScript roles are treated differently by USCIS adjudicators. Clearly articulating your specialization, React, Node.js, TypeScript, strengthens the specialty occupation argument and helps your employer build a stronger petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for sponsoring employers
Most job boards don't surface sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate is built specifically for visa-requiring candidates, so you can browse JavaScript developer roles where employers have already indicated they'll sponsor, saving time and avoiding dead ends.

Find Javascript Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can JavaScript developers get H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. JavaScript developer roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field like computer science or software engineering. Employers sponsoring software developers account for a large share of all H-1B petitions filed annually, and approval rates for this role category are among the highest across all occupations.
Do I need a computer science degree specifically, or will any bachelor's degree work?
Your degree needs to be in a field directly related to the role. For JavaScript developer positions, computer science, software engineering, information systems, and closely related fields generally satisfy the requirement. A degree in an unrelated field, business, biology, or communications, won't support the petition on its own. However, if your degree doesn't match, three years of relevant professional experience can substitute for each year of missing education, which is worth discussing with your employer's immigration attorney.
How does the H-1B lottery affect JavaScript developers?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions enter a random lottery each April, with roughly 85,000 slots available and several hundred thousand registrations filed annually. Selection isn't guaranteed regardless of your qualifications. If you're not selected, options include reapplying the following year, pursuing an O-1A if you have exceptional credentials, finding a cap-exempt employer, or exploring the E-3 visa if you hold Australian citizenship. Migrate Mate lists roles from employers experienced with all of these pathways.
What's the difference between front-end and full-stack roles for sponsorship purposes?
USCIS evaluates each petition based on the specific duties and degree requirements listed by the employer, not the job title. Both front-end and full-stack JavaScript roles can qualify, but the employer must demonstrate the position genuinely requires a specialized degree. Full-stack roles involving systems architecture, database design, and backend infrastructure often present a stronger specialty occupation argument because the technical complexity is easier to document.
Are startups able to sponsor JavaScript developers, or should I focus on large companies?
Startups can and do sponsor H-1B workers, but the process carries more scrutiny than petitions from established employers. USCIS sometimes issues Requests for Evidence questioning whether early-stage companies have the financial ability to pay the prevailing wage or whether the role truly requires a specialized degree. Startups that have sponsored before and can document financial stability are more reliable. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active sponsorship history so you can distinguish experienced sponsors from first-timers.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Javascript Developer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
