Target consulting firms first
SAP consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture, and Capgemini are among the most active H-1B sponsors for SAP roles. They hire in volume and have established immigration processes, making sponsorship more predictable than smaller employers.
Specialize in S/4HANA migration
SAP's push to migrate clients to S/4HANA before the 2027 ECC end-of-maintenance deadline has created urgent demand for migration specialists. Employers are more willing to sponsor candidates with hands-on S/4HANA experience than generalist SAP developers.
Get your specialty occupation case right
SAP developer roles qualify as specialty occupations, but your job description must explicitly require a relevant bachelor's degree. Vague postings citing general IT degrees have faced USCIS scrutiny. Work with your employer's immigration counsel to ensure the LCA and petition are aligned.
Module depth beats breadth
Employers sponsoring visas want SAP developers who own a specific module, whether that's FI/CO, SD, MM, or HCM. Deep expertise in one area is more defensible in an H-1B petition than broad surface-level knowledge across several modules.
Document your degree equivalency early
Many SAP developers trained internationally hold three-year degrees or non-CS qualifications. USCIS accepts equivalent credentials, but you'll need a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency. Arrange this before your employer files to avoid delays.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Not every company that lists SAP developer roles will sponsor visas. Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers with active sponsorship, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't support your immigration needs.

Find SAP Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Is SAP developer a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, SAP developer roles generally qualify as specialty occupations because the work requires theoretical and practical application of a specific body of knowledge, typically in computer science, information systems, or a related engineering field. The key is that the job posting must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific discipline, not just any degree. Generic postings that accept any bachelor's degree can trigger USCIS denials, so the job description language matters significantly.
Which SAP specializations have the best H-1B approval rates?
SAP ABAP developers, SAP Basis administrators, and S/4HANA consultants consistently appear in high volumes on USCIS approval data. Roles tied to SAP's core financial and supply chain modules (FI/CO, MM, SD) have strong approval histories because the degree-to-role connection is well established. SAP security and Basis roles often fare particularly well because the technical specificity makes specialty occupation arguments straightforward.
Can I get sponsored as an SAP developer without a computer science degree?
Yes, but it requires more documentation. USCIS accepts equivalent qualifications, including a combination of education and experience using the three-for-one rule, where three years of specialized experience substitutes for one year of education. A bachelor's degree in information systems, business information technology, or engineering can also support a petition depending on the SAP module involved. A credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency is required if your degree is from outside the United States.
Do SAP developer jobs typically offer visa sponsorship, and where can I find them?
Many do, particularly at large consulting firms and enterprise companies running SAP ERP systems, but sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer. The most reliable approach is to search specifically on platforms that filter for sponsoring employers. Migrate Mate lists SAP developer roles where employers have confirmed they support visa sponsorship, which saves you from applying to companies that will reject you at the offer stage.
Does SAP certification help with H-1B sponsorship?
SAP certifications from SAP SE (such as the SAP Certified Application Associate credentials) strengthen your petition by demonstrating specialized expertise beyond a degree alone. They're particularly useful if your academic background is in a field adjacent to the specific SAP module you work in. USCIS adjudicators weigh certifications as evidence of specialized knowledge, which supports the specialty occupation classification and can help offset a less directly related degree.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Sap Developer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
