Nursing Aide Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Nursing aides face unique visa sponsorship challenges due to education requirements and state licensing. Most positions require completion of a state-approved CNA program rather than a four-year degree, which can complicate H-1B eligibility but opens doors to other visa pathways through healthcare employers. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Nursing Aide
Target hospitals and long-term care facilities
Large healthcare systems like Kaiser Permanente, HCA Healthcare, and Ascension frequently sponsor visas. They have established immigration processes and understand healthcare worker visa requirements better than smaller facilities.
Consider the EB-3 pathway over H-1B
Since CNA positions typically don't require bachelor's degrees, EB-3 green card sponsorship may be more viable than H-1B. The process takes longer but offers permanent residence directly.
Highlight specialized certifications
Certifications in wound care, dementia care, or medication administration can strengthen your sponsorship case. Employers value specialized skills that reduce training costs and improve patient care quality in their facilities.
Research state licensing requirements early
Each state has different CNA licensing requirements for international workers. Some accept foreign credentials with additional testing, while others require complete retraining through approved programs before employment eligibility.
Network through healthcare staffing agencies
Agencies like AMN Healthcare and Cross Country Healthcare work with multiple employers and understand visa sponsorship processes. They can match you with facilities that regularly sponsor international healthcare workers.
Document your clinical experience thoroughly
Maintain detailed records of patient care hours, specialized procedures performed, and any supervisory experience. This documentation supports both visa applications and state licensing board requirements for international candidates.

Do nursing aide positions qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Most nursing aide positions don't qualify for H-1B because they typically require CNA certification rather than a bachelor's degree. However, supervisory roles or positions requiring specialized healthcare degrees may qualify. EB-3 green card sponsorship is often more viable for traditional CNA roles.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a nursing aide?
Standard CNA positions require state certification rather than a degree, which limits H-1B eligibility. However, positions requiring an associate degree in nursing or healthcare-related bachelor's degrees may qualify for H-1B. Many employers prefer candidates with formal healthcare education even for entry-level roles.
How long does visa sponsorship take for nursing aide positions?
EB-3 sponsorship typically takes 2-4 years depending on your country of birth, with PERM labor certification adding 12-18 months upfront. H-1B processing (for qualifying roles) takes 3-8 months. Healthcare employers often use premium processing when available to accelerate timelines.
Can I work as a nursing aide while my green card is processing?
Yes, if you have valid work authorization. Many applicants work on H-1B, F-1 OPT, or other temporary status while their EB-3 petition processes. You can also apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) once your I-485 adjustment of status is filed.
Do I need to pass NCLEX for nursing aide visa sponsorship?
No, NCLEX is for registered nurses, not nursing aides. However, you'll need to pass your state's CNA competency exam and meet licensing requirements. Some states require additional English proficiency tests or credential evaluations for internationally trained healthcare workers before employment authorization.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Nursing Aide jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
