Role Overview
This position supports Information Technology Operations at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant and the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center (REVC), home of the F-150 Lightning. As part of the Plant IT team, this role is hands-on and embedded in manufacturing operations, directly supporting plant floor systems, infrastructure, and applications critical to vehicle production.
The role plays a key part in Ford’s electrification and Factory of Tomorrow initiatives by supporting both legacy manufacturing execution systems and next-generation technologies including IIoT, software-defined networking, mobility solutions, and digital manufacturing tools. The ideal candidate is technically curious, adaptable, and eager to gain manufacturing experience while expanding their IT skillset.
What You’ll Do
- Provide on-site IT operations and technical support for plant floor systems, applications, and infrastructure
- Support manufacturing operations across multiple shifts to ensure uptime and productivity
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to servers, networks, operating systems, and end-user tools
- Interface daily with plant departments including Assembly, Industrial Controls, Quality, Finance, and Corporate IT
- Support plant floor systems and corporate IT teams during incidents and escalations
- Provide “hands and feet” support for global IT teams (Network, Server Ops, DBA, Ops Control)
- Assist with business continuity plans, triage efforts, and incident resolution
- Support Windows and Linux servers in both physical and virtual (VMware vSphere) environments
- Support local Cisco-based network equipment including routers, switches, cabling, and troubleshooting
- Assist with Factory of Tomorrow deployments (IIoT, software-defined networks, mobile and Android devices)
- Support mobile devices including iPhones, iPads, Android devices, handheld scanners, and imagers
- Maintain and update accurate IT support documentation
- Assist the Site IT Manager with workload management and assignment tracking
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and lean manufacturing support through IT solutions
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- IT operations or technical support experience (or strong willingness to learn quickly)
- Experience or exposure to Windows Server (2016+) and/or Linux environments
- Familiarity with basic server administration concepts
- Experience with Windows OS, PCs, printers, and office automation tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
- Experience supporting end users in a production or enterprise environment
- Strong troubleshooting, customer support, and communication skills
- Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment with flexible scheduling
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field
- Experience with VMware vSphere
- Knowledge of Windows Active Directory / ADFS
- Familiarity with Cisco routers and switches (staging, cabling, troubleshooting)
- Willingness to learn Cisco Software-Defined Architecture (SDA)
- Experience with SharePoint
- Experience supporting iOS and Android mobile devices
- Exposure to plant floor automation systems (PLC, control systems, MES)
- PowerShell scripting experience
