Fueled by passion and entrepreneurial spirit, our people bring new ideas to solve the world's most challenging problems, like designing a more resilient and equitable future for our cities and communities.
Gensler’s Global Marketing & Brand Communications Studio is an award-winning, strategic marketing communications team that supports the firm’s marketing and business development activities. We are looking for a Senior Social Media Strategist who will own Gensler's social media strategy end-to-end, bringing equal parts editorial judgment and creative craft to every platform. This is a senior individual contributor role for a seasoned communications professional who can operate independently, develop smart strategy, and execute compelling content that advances the firm's brand, deepens engagement with clients, prospective talent, media, and design advocates, and connects meaningfully with our global audience.
Your Role
You are a member of our Global Marketing and Brand Communications Studio, reporting to our Digital Leader, and serving as the firm's primary voice across social channels. You will work at the intersection of our digital content ecosystem and our social presence, ensuring that social strategy amplifies and extends the stories we tell across owned media.
The ideal candidate has deep social media expertise, a proven track record of growing and managing audiences for professional services firms and B2B, and the ability to translate complex subject matter into compelling social-native content. You have a sharp editorial instinct, collaborative mindset, comfort producing and directing short-form video, and the discipline to manage multiple platforms and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
What You Will Do
Strategy and Content Architecture:
- Own the social media strategy across all platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), YouTube, and collaborate with our Greater China regional team on WeChat.
- Develop and execute a social content strategy aligned with Gensler's digital ecosystem, ensuring social content amplifies and extends project case studies, expertise pages, research publications, regional stories, and people profiles published across gensler.com.
- Bring SEO and GEO fluency to content decisions, collaborating with the digital team to ensure social content is structured to perform in both traditional search and AI-generated results.
- Partner with our editorial team to maintain a publishing strategy and social content calendar that reflects Gensler's business priorities and brand voice.
- Translate long-form content, including research reports, project case studies, and practitioner thought leadership, into platform-native social formats such as carousels, short-form video, quote graphics, and interactive posts.
- Stay ahead of social media trends and developments, emerging platforms, algorithm changes, AI-assisted content tools, and communications best practices, as well as the competitive landscape in architecture, design, and professional services.
Content Creation and Execution:
- Produce and direct short-form video content and social-native creative assets that reflect Gensler's elevated visual brand standards.
- Write and edit copy across all platforms with a strong editorial voice, adapting tone and format to each channel while maintaining brand consistency.
- Source imagery and visual assets while partnering with our design team to produce social content that pushes creative boundaries reflective of the Gensler brand.
- Leverage Gensler's purpose and mission to connect meaningfully with our global audience around topics including human-centered design, climate action, resilience, and the future of the built environment.
Performance, Partnerships, and Enablement:
- Establish and maintain a reporting cadence that connects social media performance to brand awareness, audience growth, engagement, and business development goals, using enterprise social management and measurement tools.
- Partner cross-functionally with the Public Relations and Executive Communications teams on content development, crisis communication response, and escalation protocols on social channels.
- Serve as a strategic partner to regional offices and their communications teams, developing internal guidelines, external campaign toolkits, and training resources to scale reach across local accounts while maintaining brand consistency.
- Maintain and steward visual brand standards across all social channels, ensuring content quality meets the elevated bar established by the firm's redesigned digital presence, including photography, typography, and design system consistency.
- Provide regular landscape analysis to inform strategy, identify emerging opportunities, and ensure Gensler's social presence remains competitive and current.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant social media and content marketing experience; experience with B2B, professional services, architecture and design, or commercial real estate strongly preferred; agency experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of growing and managing social audiences with measurable results.
- In-depth knowledge of the current social media landscape.
- Strong proficiency with enterprise social media management platforms (such Hootsuite or equivalent), analytics dashboards, and social listening tools.
- Proven ability to produce and direct short-form video content and comfort with lightweight content creation tools.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and familiarity with design systems and brand guidelines.
- Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills with the ability to translate complex subject matter into accessible, engaging content.
- Experience with crisis communications response on social channels.
- Experience coordinating content strategy across global regions, business units, or offices.
- Familiarity with CMS-driven content ecosystems and the ability to align social publishing with a broader digital content architecture.
- Exemplary project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and deliver consistently as an independent operator in a dynamic environment.
Compensation
The base compensation range is estimated to be between $90k-$100k, plus bonuses and benefits and contingent upon relevant experience.

Focus on companies with 500+ employees who already run complex social media operations. These employers understand the specialized skills required and have experience with visa sponsorship processes.
Emphasize analytics and technical expertise
Highlight proficiency in social media management platforms, data analysis tools, and campaign optimization. Technical skills help demonstrate the specialized knowledge required for H-1B approval.
Document measurable campaign results
Prepare portfolio examples showing engagement growth, conversion rates, and ROI improvements. Quantifiable results demonstrate the business impact that supports specialty occupation requirements.
Consider brand marketing and PR roles
Expand your search to brand manager, digital marketing specialist, and communications coordinator positions. These related roles often include social media responsibilities with stronger sponsorship prospects.
Research company social media presence
Apply to companies with active, sophisticated social strategies across multiple platforms. Organizations investing heavily in social media are more likely to sponsor qualified managers.
Pursue relevant certifications and training
Earn certifications from Facebook Blueprint, Google Analytics, or HubSpot. Additional credentials help establish expertise and strengthen your case for specialty occupation classification.
Frequently Asked Questions
What degree do I need for social media manager visa sponsorship?
Marketing, communications, journalism, or business degrees typically qualify. The key is showing how your education directly relates to social media strategy, content creation, and digital marketing. Some employers accept related degrees with significant social media experience, but a direct match strengthens your petition considerably.
How to find Social Media Manager jobs with visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to find Social Media Manager positions with visa sponsorship. This platform specializes in connecting international candidates with employers offering H-1B visa, O-1 visa, and other work visas. Focus your search on tech companies, digital marketing agencies, e-commerce businesses, and startups that frequently sponsor visas for marketing professionals and have growing social media needs.
Do social media managers qualify for H-1B specialty occupation requirements?
Yes, but it requires demonstrating specialized knowledge beyond basic social posting. Focus on analytics, campaign strategy, cross-platform coordination, and business impact. Roles emphasizing data analysis, paid advertising management, and strategic planning have stronger approval odds than content-only positions.
Which visa types work best for social media managers?
H-1B is most common for bachelor's degree holders. E-3 visa works for Australians in marketing-focused roles. TN visa status covers Canadians and Mexicans in marketing specialist positions. O-1 is possible for social media professionals with extraordinary achievement in digital marketing or content creation.
How do I find companies that sponsor social media roles?
Search the DOL's foreign labor certification database for marketing and communications positions. Check H-1B disclosure data for companies filing social media manager or digital marketing specialist petitions. Tech companies, agencies, and consumer brands frequently sponsor these roles.
What's the biggest challenge for social media manager sponsorship?
Proving the role requires specialized knowledge rather than general marketing skills. USCIS scrutinizes whether the position truly needs a bachelor's degree. Emphasize technical platforms, data analysis requirements, and strategic planning aspects rather than content creation alone.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Social Media Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
