This role will serve as the primary commercial owner for assigned strategic accounts, working closely with customer engineering, sourcing, operations, supply chain, and executive leadership teams. Internally, the individual will coordinate cross-functional teams across sales, product, engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and finance.
The ideal candidate combines strong strategic account management experience with knowledge of optical communications, photonics, networking, semiconductors, or related data-center hardware technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Own overall account strategy and commercial relationships for strategic hyperscale and AI data-center customers.
- Build strong relationships with customer executives, engineering, sourcing, operations, and supply-chain teams.
- Develop multi-year account plans focused on revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and share-of-wallet expansion.
- Identify and drive new opportunities across AI infrastructure, cloud data centers, and next-generation optical connectivity.
- Align customer technology roadmaps and deployment plans with internal product and capacity strategies.
- Manage account forecasting, pipeline visibility, and long-range revenue planning.
- Coordinate execution across NPI, production ramp, mass deployment, delivery, quality, and supply.
- Lead resolution of technical, operational, capacity, and commercial issues.
- Serve as the internal voice of the customer and influence product roadmap, resource priorities, and capacity decisions.
- Lead global cross-functional teams through influence rather than direct authority.
- Conduct executive business reviews and strategic account planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in strategic account management, technical sales, business development, customer engineering, or related customer-facing roles.
- Experience managing complex strategic or global customer accounts.
- Strong commercial judgment, negotiation, executive communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Proven ability to coordinate technical, operational, and commercial teams in a matrixed organization.
- Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting hyperscalers, cloud providers, AI infrastructure companies, or large data-center customers.
- Industry experience in optical communications, optical transceivers, photonics, networking, semiconductors, electronics, or related hardware.
- Track record of growing multi-million-dollar strategic accounts or winning major platforms/programs.
- Experience working with VP- and C-level customer stakeholders.
- Experience with strategic account planning, forecasting, executive business reviews, and long-range revenue planning.
Director-Level Candidates
Director-level candidates should typically bring 12+ years of relevant industry experience, including ownership of major strategic/global accounts and a demonstrated record of significant revenue growth, platform wins, executive-level customer relationships, and strategic commercial leadership.

Account Director Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a account director job in San Francisco?
The strongest path is targeting San Francisco's tech and SaaS ecosystem, where account director roles are most active. Employers in SoMa and the Financial District favor candidates with a background in managing enterprise or mid-market client relationships, not just sales. Experience with product-led growth companies, digital agencies, or cloud platforms gives you a clear edge in this market over generalist account management experience.
Which companies hire account directors in San Francisco?
San Francisco account director roles are posted by Epiq, EY, and JLL and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local employer mix skews heavily toward SaaS companies, digital marketing agencies, and enterprise tech platforms headquartered or with major offices in the city.
Are there remote account director jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though account director roles are moderately remote-friendly given the client-facing nature of the work. About 75% of account director openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements being the most common. Strategic and renewal work tends to be done remotely, while onboarding and executive business reviews often require in-person presence.
How can I get a account director job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from an account manager or senior account executive role at a San Francisco SaaS or agency employer. Mid-size tech companies in SoMa and Mission Bay are more likely than large enterprises to promote from within or hire externally at the director level with five or fewer years of experience. Building relationships within a specific vertical, such as fintech or cloud infrastructure, accelerates that path considerably.
Which industries hire the most account directors in San Francisco?
The sectors hiring the most account directors in San Francisco are Technology & Software, Marketing & Advertising, and Fintech, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Francisco's concentration of enterprise software headquarters and agency holding companies makes it one of the densest markets in the country for this role.
