Tips for Your Accounting Associate Job Search
Tailor your resume to the posting
Accounting associate postings vary by function, so a resume built around AP work won't land as well for a GL-focused role. Match the specific accounts, software, and reconciliation tasks in your resume to the language in each posting you apply to.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists accounting associate openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight your month-end close experience
Employers screening accounting associate candidates look hard for month-end and quarter-end close experience. If you've supported journal entries, accruals, or bank reconciliations on a close schedule, call that out explicitly and mention the volume you handled.
Filter by software to find real matches
Many accounting associate roles are built around a specific ERP or accounting platform like QuickBooks, NetSuite, or SAP. Filtering your search by that tool narrows results to jobs where your existing skills are a direct fit and where onboarding friction is lowest.
Prepare for a technical screening round
Accounting associate interviews often include a short skills test covering journal entries, account classifications, or Excel-based reconciliations. Practice working through a basic trial balance or variance analysis before your interview so the format isn't a surprise.
Negotiate using the full offer, not just base pay
When evaluating an offer, ask specifically about overtime eligibility, exam reimbursement for CPA candidates, and review cycles, since those variables often matter more to early-career accounting professionals than the base salary alone.
Accounting Associate Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most accounting associates?
The companies hiring the most accounting associates right now include Aprio, SS&C, and JPMorganChase, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand tends to be highest at large regional firms, healthcare networks, and companies undergoing audits or system migrations.
How many accounting associate jobs are remote?
About 55% of accounting associate openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with remote work most common in accounts payable, billing, and financial reporting roles. Functions tied to physical document handling or on-site audit support tend to remain in-office more often than transactional or data-entry-heavy positions.
How do you become an accounting associate?
Most accounting associate roles require at least an associate's degree in accounting or finance, though a bachelor's degree is increasingly standard. Build hands-on experience through internships or part-time bookkeeping work, get comfortable with Excel and at least one accounting platform, and learn the basics of debits, credits, and reconciliation before your first interview.
Can you get an accounting associate job with little or no experience?
Yes, entry-level accounting associate roles exist specifically for candidates without full-time experience. Employers hiring at that level typically look for relevant coursework in accounting or finance, internship or volunteer bookkeeping experience, and solid Excel skills. Roles in accounts payable and data entry tend to be the most accessible starting points for candidates building their first accounting resume.
What does the accounting associate interview process look like?
The accounting associate interview process usually runs two to three rounds. A recruiter or HR screen comes first, followed by a hiring manager interview focused on your technical background and how you handle reconciliation or close processes. Many employers add a short skills assessment covering Excel, journal entries, or basic account classifications before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to accounting associate jobs?
You can find and apply to accounting associate jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your background, whether that's AP, AR, general ledger, or a specific industry, and apply directly to each listing that fits your experience and location preferences.
