Tips for Your Analyst Intern Job Search
Tailor your resume for each application
Analyst intern recruiters scan for quantified impact, so replace vague bullet points with numbers wherever you can. Even small wins count: 'reduced report prep time by 20%' reads stronger than 'assisted with reporting.' Customize your summary line to match the team's focus, whether that's financial modeling, market research, or operations.
Showcase Excel and SQL skills early
Most analyst intern postings screen for proficiency in Excel and SQL before anything else. List specific functions you've used, like pivot tables, VLOOKUP, or JOIN queries, rather than just writing 'Excel proficient.' A short portfolio project or sample dataset on GitHub signals real capability to hiring managers reviewing dozens of identical resumes.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists analyst intern openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings that name the team
Analyst intern roles vary widely depending on whether you're joining a corporate finance team, a strategy group, or a data science function. Postings that name the exact team give you enough context to tailor your cover letter and prepare relevant case examples. Generic postings tend to attract more competition and offer less clarity on actual work.
Prepare a short case walkthrough
Many analyst intern interviews include a short case or data exercise, even at the internship level. Practice walking through your reasoning out loud, not just getting to the right answer. Interviewers want to see how you structure an ambiguous problem, so rehearse narrating each step of your analysis rather than going silent and presenting conclusions.
Follow up with a specific reference point
After your interview, send a follow-up note that references one specific topic you discussed, not a generic thank-you. Mention a methodology you found interesting or a question you've since thought more about. It signals genuine engagement and helps the interviewer distinguish you from candidates who send identical boilerplate messages.
Analyst Intern Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most analyst interns?
The companies hiring the most analyst interns right now include Citi, Lennox International, and Interactive Brokers, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Florida, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest in financial services, management consulting, and technology sectors.
How many analyst intern jobs are remote?
About 21% of analyst intern openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a significant share of flexible arrangements across the role. Data analytics and market research sub-specializations tend to offer the highest proportion of remote options, while finance and operations analyst roles more often require on-site presence.
How do you become an analyst intern?
Start by building core technical skills in Excel and SQL through coursework or self-directed projects. Develop a portfolio of at least one or two data or financial analysis samples you can reference in interviews. Apply to internship postings that align with your academic concentration, tailor each application to the team's specific focus, and prepare to walk through your analytical reasoning in a structured case format.
Can you get an analyst intern role with little or no experience?
Yes, analyst intern roles are specifically designed for candidates early in their careers, so hiring managers expect limited professional experience. What matters most is demonstrating analytical thinking through coursework, class projects, or independent work like a personal finance model or a data visualization project. Highlighting relevant coursework, technical tools you've learned, and any research or club work that involved data analysis can offset a thin resume.
What does the analyst intern interview process look like?
The analyst intern interview process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on your background and motivation, followed by one or two rounds with team members. These rounds often include behavioral questions using the STAR format and a short analytical exercise, such as interpreting a dataset, walking through a financial model, or structuring a market sizing problem. Some employers add a take-home case between rounds.
Where can I find and apply to analyst intern jobs?
You can find and apply to analyst intern jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and target industry, then apply directly to each opening that fits. New postings are added regularly, so checking back often gives you access to the most current opportunities.
