Assistant Project Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a assistant project manager in New York?
Most New York employers expect a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field as the foundation. From there, candidates typically build experience through internships or entry-level coordinator roles at a construction firm or owner's representative office. Earning the CAPM credential through the Project Management Institute signals readiness to move into an assistant-level role and is increasingly requested in New York postings, particularly for commercial and infrastructure projects.
Which companies hire assistant project managers in New York?
New York assistant project manager roles are posted by ECS Limited, Batska Consulting, and JRM Construction Management and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York City's volume of large-scale commercial, residential, and public infrastructure projects keeps a wide range of general contractors, construction managers, and development firms actively hiring at this level.
Which New York cities have the most assistant project manager jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester have the most assistant project manager openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its concentration of major general contractors, real estate developers, and public agencies overseeing capital construction, while Buffalo and Albany generate demand through regional infrastructure programs, healthcare system expansions, and state-funded development projects.
Are there remote assistant project manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 3% of assistant project manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the hands-on, site-coordination nature of most construction and development roles. The parts of the work most likely to go remote are document control, scheduling support, and administrative coordination tasks that do not require regular site presence.
How can I get hired as a assistant project manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paid internship or project coordinator role at a New York general contractor or construction management firm, which many large employers use as a direct pipeline into assistant project manager positions. Firms like Turner Construction and AECOM run structured internship programs out of their New York City offices. Candidates who combine a construction management or engineering degree with demonstrated Procore proficiency and strong document control skills stand out, even without full-time experience.
Where can I find and apply to assistant project manager jobs in New York?
