Construction Project Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction project manager in New York?
Most construction project managers in New York start with a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, then build field experience as an assistant PM or superintendent. New York does not require a state license specifically for the title, but many employers expect OSHA 30 certification and a PMP or CCM credential. Working under a licensed Professional Engineer on large public projects is common, and familiarity with New York City Department of Buildings permit processes gives candidates a concrete edge.
How much do construction project managers make in New York?
Construction project managers in New York earn a median of about $155,360 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $86,250 for the lowest 10% to over $244,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction project managers in New York?
Employers hiring construction project managers in New York right now include LaBella Associates, Suffolk Construction, and Gordian, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of large-scale public infrastructure projects and dense commercial development means both national ENR-ranked firms and regional general contractors maintain consistent openings throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most construction project manager jobs?
New York, Albany, and Clay have the most construction project manager openings in New York. New York City drives the bulk of demand through its commercial real estate pipeline, MTA capital program, and major hospital system expansions, while Buffalo's ongoing waterfront and infrastructure investment and Albany's state government construction activity keep those markets consistently active as well.
Are there remote construction project manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction project management is fundamentally a site-present role, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 15% of construction project manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be pre-construction planning, estimating, or program management roles where site visits are periodic rather than daily.
How can I get hired as a construction project manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an assistant project manager or project engineer role with a large general contractor operating in New York City or the surrounding region. Firms like Turner Construction and AECOM run structured associate PM programs for recent graduates. A degree in construction management or civil engineering, an OSHA 10 or 30 card, and exposure to Procore or Primavera through coursework all strengthen an early application. Field roles in estimating or scheduling are also common lateral moves into the PM track.
Where can I find and apply to construction project manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to construction project manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the ones that match.
