Position Overview
The Experienced Low Voltage Technician will perform advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repair of access control systems, hard‑wired and wireless camera systems, automatic doors, security systems, door hardware, and related low‑voltage equipment. This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work efficiently under time pressure, excellent customer service skills, and the capability to manage field work with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Service
- Install, configure, and service:
- Access control systems (readers, mag locks, strikes, panels, controllers)
- Hard‑wired and wireless CCTV systems and NVR/VMS platforms
- Automatic door systems and electronic door hardware
- Security/alarm systems
- Structured cabling (Cat5/6, low-voltage wiring)
- Diagnose complex low‑voltage electrical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Inspect doors, windows, frames, and hardware to identify root causes of system failures.
- Perform detailed service work and ensure all products operate correctly.
- Clean and organize service sites after each job.
Documentation & Workflow Management
- Provide accurate quotes to management for generating customer estimates.
- Complete job tickets fully, including materials used, labor time, and detailed work descriptions.
- Communicate part orders, special materials, and project needs to management in a timely manner.
- Manage parts usage and maintain organized inventory in work vehicle.
- Respond to dispatches promptly and maintain communication throughout the workday.
Customer Service & Professionalism
- Deliver a high-quality service experience, maintaining politeness, attentiveness, and professionalism.
- Educate customers on system functionality and recommended services.
- Identify and upsell additional products/services when appropriate.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
Operational & Physical Requirements
- Safely operate a company service vehicle.
- Use all required hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Work in confined spaces, from ladders, and at heights.
- Tolerate outdoor conditions in all seasons for up to 7.5 hours per shift.
- Perform duties efficiently under frequent time pressures in a high-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience as a Low Voltage Technician required.
- Strong proficiency with access control, CCTV, security systems, and low-voltage troubleshooting.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer schematics.
- Ability to lift/push 50+ lbs (with assistance for heavier loads).
- Ability to kneel, crouch, stoop, climb, and reach overhead.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Mechanically inclined with strong problem-solving ability.
- Organized, dependable, and able to maintain excellent attendance.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (Required).
- Low Voltage License (Required).
- High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
