DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Auxiliary Maintenance Reliability Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of auxiliary conveying equipment within our manufacturing operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with experience in automation systems, controls, and material handling equipment who enjoys solving technical challenges in a fast-paced production environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair auxiliary conveying systems and related automation equipment.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system issues to minimize downtime.
- Program, adjust, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, and automated control systems.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on conveyors, loaders, feeders, vacuum conveying systems, and related equipment.
- Support equipment startups, commissioning activities, and process improvements.
- Monitor system performance and recommend modifications to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Safety Responsibilities:
- Supports a culture where employees address unsafe conditions and behaviors, make suggestions for improvements, and actively participates in implementing solutions
- Identifies safety gaps and self-initiates corrective actions
- Strictly adheres to plant safety, housekeeping, and 5S efforts
- Understands, identifies, and corrects safety hazards
- Drives a culture which empowers employees to understand and embrace what they own
- Food Safety Responsibilities:
- Monitors and verifies activities to ensure that finished goods and raw materials are coming in and out of the facility meet consumer safety and quality standards.
- Complies with all company food safety and quality assurance procedures
- Reports any product or process failures that could impact food safety of manufactured products to the location’s Food Safety Team Leader and submits an appropriate incident report
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- (Preferred) Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Automation Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience maintaining automated industrial equipment.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems, industrial controls, VFDs, sensors, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Experience with auxiliary conveying equipment, material handling systems, or plastics processing equipment is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with vacuum conveying systems, loaders, dryers, blenders, or centralized material handling systems.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and root cause analysis.
- Understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and a sharp focus on safety. Operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Ability to read, comprehend and retain information. Basic mathematical aptitude and skills.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Tactful, courteous, polite, patient, and professional at all times.
- Good interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
