Billing Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a billing analyst in California?
Most California employers expect at least an associate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, with a bachelor's preferred for mid-level roles. No state-issued license is required for the general billing analyst role, but those working in healthcare billing often pursue a Certified Professional Biller credential through the American Academy of Professional Coders, which is widely recognized by California hospital systems and medical groups. Gaining experience in accounts receivable or medical records is the most common starting point.
How much do billing analysts make in California?
Billing analysts in California earn a median of about $56,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $42,840 for the lowest 10% to over $77,260 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire billing analysts in California?
Employers hiring billing analysts in California right now include County of San Mateo, ABM Industries, and Infosys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of large health systems, enterprise software companies, and regulated utilities means demand is consistent across both private and public sector employers throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most billing analyst jobs?
San Mateo, California City, and Long Beach have the most billing analyst openings in California. Los Angeles dominates due to its density of hospital networks, entertainment studios, and insurance carriers, while San Francisco's tech sector drives demand for SaaS and subscription billing roles, and San Diego's large biotech and defense industries support consistent openings at medical billing and contract billing desks.
Are there remote billing analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of billing analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well this role translates to desk-based, software-driven work. Subscription billing, revenue cycle analysis, and accounts receivable reconciliation are the functions most commonly offered fully remote by California employers.
How can I get hired as a billing analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a billing coordinator or accounts receivable clerk role, which large California health systems such as Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health routinely hire without prior billing experience. Community college certificate programs in medical billing and coding, offered at institutions throughout Los Angeles and the Bay Area, give candidates a concrete credential that opens doors. Moving laterally from roles such as customer service representative, data entry specialist, or insurance verification coordinator is also common at California-based insurance carriers and physician groups.
Where can I find and apply to billing analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to billing analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across healthcare, technology, insurance, and utilities. Find roles that fit your experience level and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
