Bookkeeper Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bookkeeper in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not require a state-issued license to work as a bookkeeper, so the path centers on education and recognized credentials. Most employers expect at least an associate degree in accounting or a related business field, often from one of Louisiana's community and technical colleges. Earning a Certified Bookkeeper designation from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers or a QuickBooks certification strengthens your candidacy considerably with Louisiana employers.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring bookkeepers in Louisiana include Ochsner Health, Division of Administration, and Bengal Transportation Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Louisiana's oil and gas services sector, regional healthcare systems, and mid-size construction firms represent some of the most consistent sources of bookkeeper openings across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most bookkeeper jobs?
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette are the Louisiana cities with the most bookkeeper openings. New Orleans drives volume through its large hospitality, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors, Baton Rouge reflects demand tied to state government, petrochemical industry, and LSU-affiliated institutions, and Shreveport's openings are largely connected to regional healthcare networks and energy-related businesses in the northwest.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields, since bookkeeping is primarily desk-based work that translates well to remote environments. About 25% of bookkeeper openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how readily accounting software and cloud platforms support off-site work. Accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a bookkeeper in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an accounts payable clerk or accounting assistant role, both of which appear regularly at Louisiana healthcare networks like Ochsner Health and LCMC Health, regional construction firms, and parish government offices. Louisiana's community and technical colleges offer accelerated accounting certificates that help candidates without a full degree compete. A QuickBooks certification or demonstrated proficiency through a volunteer bookkeeping role with a local nonprofit can make a meaningful difference when you're applying without prior paid experience.
Where can I find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Louisiana openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
