Business Office Associate Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business office associate in Maine?
Most business office associate roles in Maine require an associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or accounting. Maine does not issue a state license specifically for this role, but employers in healthcare settings often prefer candidates familiar with medical billing standards and HIPAA compliance. Completing a certificate program in medical office administration or healthcare billing from a Maine community college, such as Southern Maine Community College, strengthens your candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire business office associates in Maine?
Employers hiring business office associates in Maine right now include Aspen Dental, State of Maine, and Sentinel Health Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Healthcare systems and financial institutions are consistently the largest sources of these openings across the state.
Which Maine cities have the most business office associate jobs?
The Maine cities with the most business office associate openings are Portland, Bangor, and South Portland. Portland leads because it anchors Maine's largest concentration of healthcare networks, professional services firms, and corporate offices, while Bangor and Augusta generate openings through regional medical centers and state government agencies that need billing and administrative support year-round.
Are there remote business office associate jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than many comparable office roles, since much of the work involves digital billing systems and data entry that can be done off-site. About 14% of business office associate openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a broader shift in how healthcare and financial employers staff back-office functions. Billing, insurance follow-up, and accounts receivable tasks are the functions most commonly offered with remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a business office associate in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for front desk, patient access, or administrative coordinator roles at Maine healthcare systems like MaineHealth or Northern Light Health, which regularly hire candidates without direct billing experience and provide on-the-job training. Completing a short medical office or billing certificate at a Maine community college adds a concrete credential. Lateral moves from roles such as medical receptionist, insurance authorizations coordinator, or data entry clerk are common stepping stones that Maine employers recognize and promote from internally.
Where can I find and apply to business office associate jobs in Maine?
